JayBird Sportsband Bluetooth Headphones (Midnight Black) Review

JayBird Sportsband Bluetooth Headphones (Midnight Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought these for my girlfriend, as her old headphones were pretty much dead. She has an iTouch and does quite a bit of running. Her old headphones were wired, in-ear, headband style. She liked the headband style, but didn't like the in-ear. Sweat would get constantly get into them and short out the ear pieces, not to mention that the in-ear design would hurt her ears.
After looking around, these were one of two i was considering (the other was wired). I decided I wanted to get her a wireless set, as the iTouch has Bluetooth. After about 3 months of use, I'm glad I got her these. She loves the wireless, and they are so much more comfortable than the in ear. I've used them once or twice, and I have to say that the sound is amazing (FYI - I like my music as much as the next guy, but I'm no audiophile). Also, the battery life on these is awesome. She really doesn't charge them at all, just turns them off when not in use.
Her only problems with them are that the foam ear pieces get sweaty (which according to her isn't really an issue, just an observation), and although they stay in place while running, have a tendency to move or even fall off when doing weights, especially on the bench. However, according to her these 'issues' are written off by how much she loves them. One other thing that I was disappointed about: I wanted a pouch for these so that they wouldn't get ruined in her gym bag, and I was a little disappointed that I had to purchase it separately.
So, in conclusion:
Pros:
- Comfortable
- Great Sound
- Secure (while running)
Cons:
- Sweaty ear pieces
- Tendency to fall off while lifting weights
- Doesn't come with a pouch (purchased separately)
Overall, we are both very satisfied with this. I'll probably be getting myself a pair as well! As a user of these, my girlfriend is very happy, and it solves all the problems she had with her old set. As a purchaser, I'm glad that the money was well spent. :-)

Ear Force X41 (XBOX LIVE Chat + Wireless Digital RF Game Audio with Dolby Headphone 7.1 Surround Sound) Review

Ear Force X41 (XBOX LIVE Chat + Wireless Digital RF Game Audio with Dolby Headphone 7.1 Surround Sound)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Some readers may remember me from my X4 review. Here we are a little over a year later and I am once again tearing into the box of a shiny new pair of Turtle Beach headphones. I liked the X4s, so why did I invest another $200 on the X41s? Because the X4s had some issues, common issues included sound glitches at certain frequencies (press the B button in Shadowrun), interference from other IR sources (like the Wii sensor bar), and a noticeable hiss when using the voice function. These issues did not ruin the X4s, in fact they were still one of the best gaming centric headphones, and THE best wireless gaming headphones, but the issues could be annoying. Thankfully, the X41s claim to fix everything wrong with the X4s and add some new features to boot. Do they live up to the hype or have hidden issues?
For the rest of my review I will be doing some comparison to the X4 in every aspect of these X41 headphones, as well as comparing them to the other options available. I may leave out some details that I already covered in my X4 review, if something doesn't make sense or you would like more detail check my X4 review to see if I covered it there. In this review I will mostly be pointing out what has changed from X4 to X41. Finally, I personally own 6 pairs of gaming headphones, from the aging AX360 to the Astro A40 and X4. I will be giving my opinion of the X41s performance compared to my experience with most of the other competitors on the market.
Headphone design and feel:
The X41s really shine in this area, like the X4s they are extremely light and comfortable. In addition, they have added a new type of breathable fabric to the pads which keeps your ears cool and comfortable through hours of play. They have also increased the size of the space for your ears. The end result is headphones that are easy to forget exist. The headphones are well built in every other respect. The Bass boost switch is now a button, the headset is black rather than grey, most of the other changes in this area are minor. The X41s are an improvement over the X4s and one of the most comfortable of all the headsets I have used.
Audio Quality:
One of the big draws of the X41s is the new DigitalRF which claims to increase sound quality while decreasing interference and hiss. This claim is completely factual; the X41s have excellent sound that rivals even top level wired headsets. In addition, the X41s have fixed all of the X4s sound glitches, no more will you hear disturbing static or interference when a certain frequency is played. In my experience the X41s reproduce the game sound perfectly without any degradation from being wireless.
On the other hand the extremely low level hiss is still present in the X41s, though perhaps even quieter than the X4 ambient hiss. As I said in my X4 review this constant hiss is impossible to hear if any game sound is playing, and is probably mostly amp noise created by the 50mm speakers an inch from your ear. It is nearly impossible to engineer something like the X41s and completely remove this type of hiss. Thankfully, the X41s do remove the increased hiss when using voice chat that was present on the X4 headset. With the X41s you cannot tell the difference between having the voice chat hooked up and not using it. With the X4s as soon as you plugged in voice chat the normally unobtrusive hiss would double or triple in volume and become quite noticeable. This is a pretty major improvement for the X41s, as the hiss while using voice chat was a common complaint of the X4s.
The X41s have also enhanced their Dolby DSP to handle up to 7.1 surround sound and PL2X. This is not as noticeable as the Digital RF but it is an improvement. The excellent surround sound from the X4s is made even better, and it is even easier to pinpoint exactly where a sound is coming from. The surround sound here is really fantastic, don't believe the hype about "true 5.1" headsets that have multiple speakers in each ear, this Dolby processing creates a better surround sound experience. In addition, because there is only 1 speaker per ear the speakers are much larger which makes the excellent audio quality possible. Comparing the X41s to my Tritton headsets is really one sided, the X41s are hands down better in every way when it comes to audio quality. Bottom line, 2 great speakers and Dolby Processing is far better than 8 tiny speakers.
The short version here is that the X41s are a worthy improvement in terms of audio quality. They have fixed essentially all of the major problems the X4s had and added some new features as well. The X41s perform very well when compared to wired headsets also, for the same price you could not find a 5.1 headset with better audio quality than the X41s, and the X41s are wireless.
Other Features:
The X41s don't change very much in this category from the X4s. You still get the excellent voice chat implementation, which will balance voice and game audio so that you can always hear everything clearly. As I already mentioned the noticeable hiss while using voice chat has been removed, so that is a major improvement here.
One notable change to the X41s is the new talkback cable that is now free of the puck. This new cable is simply 2 standard mic connections with volume control and mic mute on a little box in the middle of the wire. This cable uses heavier wire than the old X4 cable, and seems like it will resist the rigors of use more efficiently. In addition, because they did away with the puck the X41s are now compatible with any headset connection. This means with the right USB adapter and cables the X41 voice chat can be used with a PS3 or PC as well as the Xbox 360. This is really a pretty awesome addition, and one that is not touted on the box.
The X41s also have a headset jack for a wired headset with its own volume control. This headset receives all the Dolby Processing and the same sound the wireless one receives. This is nifty if you want to have multiple people listening to the same audio on headphones, and is a better option than the X4s "buy another $100 headset" approach.
The X41s are now powered via a USB cable, which you can hook to your Xbox or any other powered USB port. Not sure if I find this positive or negative, but it is a change from the X4s.
Overall:
The X41s are a worthy improvement over the X4s. The decision to upgrade is something each individual will have to consider, but if some of the X4s flaws or glitches have been bothering you the X41 does a great job of solving those issues. In addition, the X41s add a lot of great features, from Digital RF to the new talkback cable. These features make an already excellent headset even better. As far as gaming headsets go the X41s are among the best. The implementation of voice chat is second to none, and since the X41s eliminated the loud hiss found during voice chat on the X4s, this feature is nearly perfect. The sound quality is excellent, and the Digital RF really does rival wired headsets, and is completely free of audio glitches. You no longer need line of site, and the signal seems very robust and interference free even around multiple wireless networks. The X41s are also significantly more comfortable than the X4s, and the new fabric for the ear pads makes a noticeable positive difference in keeping your ears cool and comfy. In the end, for anyone looking for a gaming headset that incorporates voice and surround sound, the X41s get my unwavering recommendation. They really are the best gaming headphones available right now.
I have rated the X41s 5 out of 5 stars, compared with the X4s 4 out of 5 stars. I would not say the X41s are perfect, just surprisingly close.
Update (Roughly a year later): After a year of using the X41's, with hundreds, or perhaps thousands of hours of play across all platforms. I just want to reaffirm that I still think they are an amazing pair of headphones, and the best wireless sound solution for gamers. A few things that I have noticed in the last year.
First, when the batteries die the headphones often make a violent crackling screech noise (for perhaps a second, very short). This is annoying, not something I find bad enough to reduce the score, but I hope in the next iteration Turtle Beach fixes this, even if it means I get 30 minutes less battery life. I would rather the headphones beeped at me when the battery was low, or perhaps some indicator on the base station could show when the batteries are getting down there. Then when it got critical just make the headphones power off gracefully, rather than dying in a screech and crackle of rage.
Second, they are actually susceptible to interference from 802.11G wireless. In general they work great, but if you position stuff such that some wireless device (be it a router or a wireless client) is closer to you than the base station you can get interference. In general this is easy to fix, for instance I put my wireless devices on the opposite side of the TV from the base station and interference is a thing of the past. It is something to be aware of though, depending on your situation, especially in an apartment or dorm with tons of wireless everywhere, you could have trouble avoiding interference. To fix this perhaps Turtle Beach will switch to the 6 Ghz spectrum and use something similar to DECT. This would increase range, and should completely eliminate interference.
Finally, a quick tip on hooking these up. I found that the best way to hook the headphones up to any modern TV was to plug the X41 power USB cable into the USB slot on the TV (generally used for displaying pictures or similar features). Then use the Optical out on the TV as the connection to the X41 base station. Then you just plug all your devices in with HDMI cables...Read more›

The X41 is the third generation of wireless headsets from Turtle Beach for the Xbox 360.The X41 combines XBOX live chat with wireless game sound so you can hear the game sound and the voices of other players in the headset. That means you don’t need your XBOX communicator headset or external speakers. By hearing the XBOX Live chat in the center of your head rather than in one ear, you can communicate better online. By eliminating speakers you can turn up the game without disturbing others. And, by having the game sound right on top of your ears, you can hear even the softest sound cues that are impossible to pick up with speakers.Better yet, because of the Dolby surround sound, you can also tell where the sound is coming from. That’s because unlike stereo headphones, where the sound is either to the left or right of you, the X41 has 7.1 channel surround sound that lets you pinpoint the exact direction of every sound cue in the game. So if someone is quietly sneaking up behind you, you’ll know it instantly. You can turn around, react faster and take them out before they take you out. It’s actually like having a secret weapon because it gives you a significant edge over the competition. The X41 uses digital 2.4 Giga Hertz Radio Frequency wireless technology as compared to the X4 which used an analog infra red light beam. This new digital RF technology is a huge improvement over analog IR because it delivers CD-quality sound with no background hiss, no interference from plasma TV screens and no line of sight restrictions between the transmitter and headset. The X41 uses a proprietary uncompressed digital signal with super low latency for dramatic improvement in sound quality. The bass is deeper with more kick. The highs are so crisp and clean that you can hear a pin drop. There’s also a headphone jack and volume control on the transmitter. This lets you connect a wired headset, like our Ear Force X1 or Ear Force XLC.

I didn't expect much when I ordered these. I needed wireless headphones so I didn't wake up my girlfriend while I watched TV late at night. These had a rebate when I ordered them and were the lowest price so I bought them.
Turns out they are great quality for the price. Great range as I can walk into the kitchen several rooms away from my bedroom with the headphones on and still listen to my show. Great fabric on the ear pieces so they don't buildup heat or collect moisture. They recharge when you set them in the holder and even come with nimh batteries.
The headphones are a bit bulkier that what I was originally looking for, but they're light and don't get in the way. They have a clear sound. I'm really happy with my purchase. Thanks Amazon!

Sennheiser RS120 926 MHz Wireless RF Headphones with Charging Cradle Review

Sennheiser RS120 926 MHz Wireless RF Headphones with Charging Cradle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After researching Sony, RCA, and Sennheiser wireless headphones I settled on the Sennheiser RS-120's and I have no regrets. These are excellent headphones. I ended up buying them at GoogGuys. When I asked the associate if I could try them he connected them to a DVD player and they came to life. I walked all the way accross the store filled with electronics and heard no interference what-so-ever. I was nothing short of impressed and bought them right then and there.
Now that I have been using them for several weeks I am still amazed by them. I didn't know wireless headphones could be this good. There is no interference around my house. The 300ft range claim is about right. Maybe a bit conservative. I can mow my rental house lawn accross the street and even go next door and still get a good signal.
Sound quality is excellent. Bass is strong, mids are prominent, and highs are crisp. These phones work great for music, TV, and movies. I couldn't be happier with the sound. There is some spotty static in a couple places upstairs but it is practically inaudible when listening to something.
I don't know how long the batteries last because they have never run out. I have worn them for almost 10 hours straight and they were still going strong. I put them on the charger after each use and they have never shown any signs of a low battery.
That brings me to the charging system. It is simply superb. Unlike most other wireless phone charging systems this one is very simple. Just set the headphones on the metal "tube" that sticks out of the base and it charges. No messing around to get them just right so the contacts will contact (AKA Sony).
Build quality is very good. They are light weight, yet sturdy. The RS-120's are much sturdier than any of the other Sennheiser RS phones. They are very comfortable as well. I was worried that, due to their open air, on the ear design that they would get uncomfortable after wearing them for a few hours. I was proven wrong. They have never become uncomfortable.
I have read some reviews where people complain that the base turns off whenever it wants. It has an auto-off features so that it shuts off if it gets not signal for a few minutes. I see no problem with that and it has never bothered me since I'm usually listening to something when I'm wearing them. :)
I have the base connected to my home theater receiver to which I have a TV, DVD player, and my PC connected. The phones work well with all of those sources. Games, music, movies, TV, everything sounds great and I recommend these phones whole heartedly. You would be hard pressed to find a better deal in this price range.

Sony SRFH4 Analog Tuning AM / FM Headphone Radio Review

Sony SRFH4 Analog Tuning AM / FM Headphone Radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I already own the previous Sony product, the SRF-H3. That is a fine product for the money, which I use while working out.
So, when I needed another headphone radio, I decided to buy another SRF-H3, but then noticed that Sony had just updated the product as the new SRF-H4.
The new version has been improved in a number of ways:
- The larger ear pad fits more comfortably and don't move from the correct position.
- The FM tuner now does a better job of rejecting adjacent channels (much less bleed-through from other channels).
- Even with the normal setting, the H4 has much better bass than the H3, and in the Mega-Bass position, the bass response is unusually good for a product in this price range. (Not only is this important for current pop music, but it also makes jazz and classical sound more natural.) The increased low end makes the overall response less emphasized towards the high end, which also makes the inherent noise and hiss of AM & FM radio less apparent and thus less annoying. By the way, the response sounds more even with Mega-Bass turned on, indicating that the designers anticipate the product being used by most users with it switched on, and thus provide the off position as a convenience for those who find that much bass annoying.
- The mounting of the speakers directly on the ear pieces is more solid, and eliminates the possibility of the sort of breakage mentioned in customer reviews of the H3.
Note that the product is extremely inexpensive and thus one ought not to expect the sort of sound quality you might get if you spend "three figures". However, most of the inadequacies are in what is missing (instrumental tonality and detail, dynamic range, etc.) and thus the product is still pleasant to use. Also, my radio tuning needs are minimal (there are only a few stations here), and as local radio conditions vary quite a bit, it's possible that your situation might require a more expensive tuner. But then again, it might not.
I reserve 5 stars for those high-end units, but I don't see what Sony could do to further improve this product without also having to increase the price.
PS It uses one "AAA" battery (easily available) - I mention this in case Amazon has not yet corrected their information.

Frisby 2gb Wireless Sport Mp3 Player Headset Review

Frisby 2gb Wireless Sport Mp3 Player Headset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
(Updated February 21, 2010).
First, a word about built-in Lithium Ion batteries versus removeable AAA batteries.
This Hisonic model (despite what may be said in Amazon's product description) runs on a single, replaceable AAA battery.
I have tried other models which have built-in Lithium Ion batteries. It would appear that the Lithium-Ion batteries last, at best, about 4 or 5 months until they are unable to hold a charge any longer. In addition, rechargeing it beyond 4 hours at a time can fry the battery and render it useless. It does not cut off power when the battery is fully charged. You have to watch the clock like a hawk! This has happened at least four times to me with less expensive brands which I have gotten from other merchant websites. It is not that the phones are defective. It is simply that Lithium-Ion batteries of the kind used in some headphones are not capable of lasting any longer. And after the battery is dead, you have to throw away the headphones because the shell must be broken in order to replace the battery. In addition, such an operation is more expensive than the headphones cost to begin with. In summary, MP3 PLAYERS WITH BUILT-IN LITHIUM-ION BATTERIES SHOULD BE AVOIDED! They don't last nearly as long. Removeable AAA batteries are the way to go!
Now that I have that concern out of the way, let us focus on the Hisonic model.
I now own no less than 3 of these phones. It takes about 20 to 25 minutes to load 2 Gigabytes of music (about 16 to 24 hours'-worth depending on what bit rate you use) from my computer to the phones. Consequently, I like to load them and keep them loaded with different styles of music. I just grab whichever phones hold the type of music I am in the mood for and go about my business (I like LOTS of variety). Sometimes I bring all three players with me.
Some comments have been made by other reviewers who use these phones for vigorous, sweaty exercise that the sweat from their heads is shorting out the electrical connections in the player and killing it. This may or may not be true. In any case, I have a simple, easy solution for the problem: Wear a hooded sweatshirt and place the phones on the outside of the hood slightly above your ears. The cloth will wick-away the sweat from the phones in sufficient quantity that there will be no drips on the phones. They will be protected. I can speak from personal experience!
Now, some of you will say that this arrangement will allow the phones to slip off and fall on the ground or you won't be able to hear them clearly. Bullfeathers! These headphones are quite capable of being heard quite brilliantly through cloth - and then some! As for the slippage problem, all you need to do is attach a piece of string or twine to the connecting rods above the earpieces and place it across the top of your head (measure it first, of course). I guarantee the headset will stay securely on your head even if you are running in long, pounding strides or doing jumping jacks. Another alternative is to link some rubber bands together and use the band as a chin-strap (not too tight, however).
Will this player-headset last forever? Of course not. Nothing does. However, I believe you can expect at least one year of reliable service from this player. After that, it will slowly degrade in playing duration until it quits altogether a few months after that.Note: My other two newer Hisonic players still work just fine. They are 16 months and 13 months old, respectively.
Is a year's service worth $49.95? ($44.95 from some merchants listed on Amazon as of February, 2010). You bet it is! Despite the player's few minor shortcomings, I wouldn't be without it. There is nothing better or more reliable out there in Amazonland.....or anywhere else, for that matter.
How does it sound? The overall sound quality of this Hisonic model is, in my estimation, "pretty good but not breath-taking". It depends on the source and recentness of the recording. I often listen to old 78-RPM, monophonic recordings from the 1930's and 1940's. So, take my criticism of the audio quality with a grain of salt. In any case, I doubt if any of the other brands of phones in this style sound any better than this one. Any headphone that sits ON the ear is not going to yield as much bass response as those earpieces that are lodged INSIDE the ear canal. But then, with the IN-THE-EAR plugs, you have to deal with those annoying cords! Who the heck wants that!? Certainly not me!
The Hisonic has 6 equalization (tone) settings. The only one of the settings I found to be satisfactory is the one named "Bass".
To save space on my hard drive, I ripped most of my CD's into WMA files (using Windows Media Player) with a variable bit rate of 85 to 145 kbps (the intermediate setting). The sound quality is adequate for my purposes. You may be able to achieve better sound quality by adopting a higher bit rate during the ripping of your CD's to WMA files (though it will take up more space on your drives). If you insist on using MP3 format, be advised that you will not likely hear any difference between music saved at 320kbps (the maximum) and music saved at 160kbps. Most people cannot hear any difference between 320kbps and 128kbps. So, you might as well save space on your hard (and flash) drives by using a lower rate.
This Hisonic model runs on a single AAA battery. Regardless of what the manufacturer is claiming, I recently placed a fully recharged rechargeable battery in this headphone and listened continuously for 12 hours before the battery finally quit. I think that is pretty darned good. Alkaline batteries may last longer.
Incidentally, if you are going to use rechargeable AAA batteries, don't use Sony brand (they are just a millimeter too long to fit in the battery compartment of this model). Instead, I found that Energizers (also available here on Amazon) will fit just fine in this model. By the way, in response to the gentleman who suggested hitting the battery on the tip with a hammer to make it fit: That is a good way to wind up with third degree burns and schrapnel in your face. Really, now, Sir! What could you have been thinking?
How many hours of music will it hold? I was able to fill up 2 Gigabytes of storage space with 484 Monophonic MP3 files of 3 minutes duration each (taken from CD reissues of old 78 rpm records). That brings the total to a WHOPPING 24 HOURS! (Hisonic also makes a 1GB model for less money but the 2GB model is a much better value for only a few dollars more). If you are using a high bitrate and your tracks are stereo, the player may not store as much music.
AAA batteries are small and easy to find. A spare is easy to carry in one's pocket. So, if you have a spare battery (or two) in your pocket, you can listen practically ALL DAY and ALL NIGHT without having to repeat any music! It is like having a never-ending Juke-Box in your head only much less cumbersome.
At least one other reviewer said he had a problem with the battery being drained somewhat during file transfer from the computer to the headphones. While that is possible, it should not even be an issue as the battery need not be installed at all in order to transfer files. In fact, the instructions recommend removing the battery before transfering files. Whatever power the headphones may need for file transfer (if any) is derived directly from the USB port of your computer.
The Hisonic is VERY programable and you can choose to play the tracks in the order in which they were loaded or in random shuffle order and some variations there-of. It even has folder-partitioning capabilities so you can jump directly to other music genres depending on your mood without having to crawl and wade through many contiguous files to get there. You can also program it to select tracks from only one folder or from multiple folders alternately and randomly. If you choose sequential order, be aware that re-sorting the fields of the metadata sections (in the "Details" view of your computer's filing system) prior to loading the files on the Hisonic's flash drive will NOT have any effect on the playing order. The Hisonic player will play the files in the order in which they were loaded on its internal flash drive. So, take that into account when you are loading the files if programatic order is an issue. Otherwise, choose Random-Shuffle order to really scramble them.
The thin lever on the underside of the right earpiece that is used to enter the display menues and navigate through them is somewhat flimsy and seems as though it might break if handled clumsily or carelessly. However, I have not experienced any malfunctions in 16 months of intermittent use so far. It is somewhat confusing at first to figure out how to manipulate this lever to go where you want to go. Pushing it forward or backward simply moves it to play the next track or the previous track. To enter the menues and sub-folders, you have to gently push the lever straight in upon itself, hold it in, and then move the lever forward or backward to navigate through the menues and functions. Watch the display like a hawk as you are doing this or you may wind up where you don't want to be.
As others have observed, transferring MP3 or WMA files from your computer to this headphone's flash drive is simple and easy but somewhat slow (about 20 to 25 minutes to load 2 GB worth of music). It may take even longer if you are transfering from one external hard drive thru the computer and out again to the MP3 player/phones. The amount of actual storage space is approximately 1.89 Gigabytes. This is common with flash (and hard) drives. The actual storage space is always rounded up to the...Read more›

Ear Force XLC Stereo Headset with Mic Review

Ear Force XLC Stereo Headset with Mic
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had the Turtle Beach XLC headset for a month now and have a very firm grasp on what it's all about. First and foremost, I have seen a number of people complaining that the chat is poor. This is because these people did not realize that the game sounds (effects, character voices, music, etc) must be turned down in the game settings menu--and then the chat is controlled by the TV volume. You need chat to be louder than game sounds, right? Well this is how you separate it!
Once properly adjusted, you can easily see why the XLC is an excellent headset and well worth the $29 price tag. In fact, the audio quality is outstanding for such a low price tag! Mic chat is clear as a bell--both incoming (when set up properly) and outgoing as well. Plus, the noise cancelling earpads are a very welcome feature to have since it allows you to completely focus on the game. For competitive FPS gamers like me, this is extremely useful.
Two things to keep in mind with the XLC:
1) Be sure to properly configure the game/chat balance as described above.
2) You must have a headphone jack on your TV (or home sound system receiver) to provide adequate power to the headset speakers. If you don't have a headphone jack anywhere to power the speakers, then I would strongly recommend the X1 or X11 instead.

Logitech Wireless Headset H760 With Behind-the-head Design (981-000265) Review

Logitech Wireless Headset H760 With Behind-the-head Design (981-000265)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The idea of a lightweight and cordless headset appealed to me--cords tend to snag on the mountain pile of papers that is my desk. When I finished sawing through the Fort Knox style clam shell packaging I was taken aback by the diminutive size of the dongle--which is roughly the same size as a standard USB thumb drive--and headset which features a thin behind-the-head band. In fact, the dongle is so small that losing it is a real possibility; having a way to attach it to the headset when not in use would have been nice.
Installation was a dream. On my Windows XP, Vista, and 7 computers all I needed to do was plug in the dongle. That's it. I'm still awed by Logitech's ability to make plug-n-play more than a marketing ploy. But...
The first use was like a bucket of cold water to the face. Lightweight does not equal comfortable. There was no way my ears could survive more than an hour or two of use. The mesh material covering the speakers is a skin irritant, causing my ears to itch. Also, the portion of the headset which rests above the ears to hold it in place presses against the back of my ears and causes pain after prolonged use. Plus, after an hour, my ears felt as though they were overheating.
Another drawback to this headset is the lack of a speaker mute button. It is instead replaced by a play/pause button which only functions with a few specific applications. It was something I didn't think I'd miss...until I landed on a website with gawdawful music playing in the background and no way to turn it off. Instinctively I reached to the large center button (the location on another Logitech headset) and was dismayed when the noise didn't abate.
I also noticed that a button to manually select the audio settings (i.e. movie, music, chat) was absent. I figured the change would happen automatically but I noticed no discernible change in audio quality when I switched between the three (i.e. Skype to iTunes to WinDVD, etc.). That said, the sound quality isn't up to an audiophile's standards, but it's not abysmal either.
The range, through concrete walls, was about 30 feet, which for me is more than enough. It allowed me to multitask across my office, and even in my kitchen, while still being party to a conversation on internet chat. Had the headset been more comfortable I'd see no reason to take it off at all while working on the computer. Alas, that isn't the case. And unfortunately simply switching off the headset does not revert sound back to the computer's speakers, the dongle itself must be removed.
The headset lasted about 7 hours of actual use (with a few days downtime between uses) on a full charge and it only takes a few hours to recharge. It can even charge with a USB wall charger--I've used it with the one that came with my iPhone without problems. But the charging and power lights are anything but intuitive. After reading the user's manual, I'm still confused by the blinking/coloring while in use/charging.
While this has some great features--size, ease of use, range--it has a few major drawbacks--uncomfortable for prolonged use, not switching to computer's speakers when headset is powered off, a small dongle with no way to secure it to headset. So my final verdict? It's adequate, but does not go above or beyond the call of duty and may be counterproductive for some.

Acoustic Research AWD210 Wireless Digital Stereo Headphones Review

Acoustic Research AWD210 Wireless Digital Stereo Headphones
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have now purchases 3 sets of the AWD210 headphones and 2 out of 3 have eventually broken at the left ear piece swivel joint (where the wires go through) under normal usage! I read another review from a guy who said that his headphones broke at the same location. Also, 1 of the 3 sets did not always go into charge mode and completely charge the batteries reliably every time and I only get an hour or so before they'd shut off. I tried to communicate with Acoustic Research Customer Service about the weak swivel joint plastic problem but I got only rudeness and denial out of the jerk I talked to about it. I sincerely hope they fix these problems for the next model as I will NOT buy another pair of the 210's, which is too bad, because the headphones sound GREAT in spite of the technical and quality issues. Hope my final set lasts longer than the other two did...

Skullcandy (Product Out Of Date, Newer Version Available) S6DABZ-BG Double Agent Headphones, (Black/Green) Review

Skullcandy (Product Out Of Date, Newer Version Available) S6DABZ-BG Double Agent Headphones, (Black/Green)
Average Reviews:

Originally I was looking for some sort of wireless headphone to work with a non-bluetooth MP3 player, and wasn't able to find anything without an adapter that was generally larger than the player itself. I had been checking these out as a potential solution, but could not find any reviews that weren't straight from the companies description of the product, to help me decide. My BF solved my indecision and just bought them for me.
Personally, I love them, but I can see a lot of things other people may not like. Here's just the facts.1.Wireless and really light.
2.The sound is not Connoisseur quality. If you are used to cheap earbuds like me, then they are fine, if you favor a robust pair of Sennheisers, I wouldn't risk it. Low and bassy, but the highs are muffled.
3.Headset is tight, which although good for me, may not be good for people with larger heads or who are more sensitive to excessive pressure on their ears. The good side is they don't fall off during anything, jogging, gym, working on projects, random frolicking in your house, etc.
4.I dig the oddball color combinations, but other people may find them too flashy. There is an all-black one however.
5.Interface is totally no frills. play/pause, volume, and next. You can put your music on it in folders, but not actually jump from folder to folder. (or at least the instructions don't tell say you can.)Again, plus for me, waste less time preparing my music and spend more time actually hitting the gym, but could be a minus for many.
5. No shuffle feature. I never use shuffle. (going from classical to house to black metal in 10 minutes makes me neurotic..)
6. Hour long charge gets you about 8 hours of play. charge via USB.(joy!)
7. You can very clearly hear button clicks while wearing them. Not so good if you want to go 50 songs forward.
8. Comes with a cord to plug into an mp3 player if needed.
9. Interface and charge are totally USB plug and play.
10.Comes with 1 GIG SD.
11. Buttons are easy to reach and press, but the symbols are not very raised. May take a few trys to get the right button before you get used to it.
Basically, if you just need a no-frills wireless solution for an active lifestyle, these fit the bill. What I imagine to be the big issues for most people are the sound quality and the tightness. Although I am very pleased with them, I would advise most people to try them on and listen to them first if you can.

NuForce BT-Sports Stereo Bluetooth Headsets (Black) Review

NuForce BT-Sports Stereo Bluetooth Headsets (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A good product that needs some small tweeks to be great. I have owned the motorola ROCKR s-9 hd as well as the Rocketfish RF-MAB2 HD. I originally decided on the Nuforce BT Sports after my ROCKRs shorted out on the speaker side. Since a strenuous work-out likely caused the ROCKR shortage, I thought I would try the NuForce. As far as the sweatproofability of NuForce, I was quite happy. I was even pleasantly surprised to find that the overall design of the set looked much nicer than the sample pictures on amazon and on the nuforce site. Additionally, the NuForce were quite comfortable. I was sold-- well, almost. Phone calls with the NuForce are unfortunately impossible due to the microphone being too quiet on the set. I called many different people and noone was able to hear me at a reasonable audible level. I was so disappointed because I really liked them as a workout pair. But what's the point of bluetooth convenience if you are switching between headsets? I had to return them. On a bright note, NuForce accepted them and refunded the purchase hassle free.
If you only need a workout pair, these are great and I think they will be reliable (I only had them for a week).
I like this company's potential and eagerly await an updated sports set.

Got this to use while on my treadmill. I can listen to the TV- reduce out the treadmill noise and not disturb others with my volume. Works perfect. The 50' to 70' range lets me stop for breaks away from the TV without missing anything. The set is always charged. It took only a minute to connect and plug in. I did have to play around with the exact position on my head for max comfort, but I found it quickly. I love this product. Wish I'd found it sooner. As always, Amazon had the price, fast shipping and the best return policy out there.

Plantronics .Audio 995 Wireless Stereo Headset Review

Plantronics .Audio 995 Wireless Stereo Headset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Lots of reviews out there, but mine is a bit more objective due to the testing I have done.
Probably, like you, I was in the market for a headset to use with speech recognition, Skype, music playback from iTunes, etc. But I wanted to cut the cord on my Logitech USB headset. So a few months ago I went out and purchased the Logitech ClearChat Wireless headset. Between this latter headset and the Plantronics 995, there really is not much else on the market as far as non-bluetooth wireless headsets go. These headsets use a USB 2.4 GHz transceiver. This is much better than bluetooth, which constantly needs pairing and has sub-par performance when used with speech recognition, VOIP, etc. due to low bandwidth.
Testing and using the Logitech ClearChat Wireless headset, I was pretty impressed. It worked with Dragon Naturally Speaking/MacSpeech Dictate, as well as with Skype.
However, what I did not like about the Logitech ClearChat headset was that the ear muffs were too small (many complain about it) and there was constant static whilst speaking to someone on Skype (Skype to phone calls). Additionally, the more you move around with the ClearChat, the more static there is, and the range was acceptable but not great. To make my testing objective, I was switching, on the Skype call, between the USB headset and the wireless ClearChat one. The static was only present with the ClearChat headset and not with the USB headset.
So, having read all the great reviews about the 995 Plantronics, I went down to the store, exchanged my ClearChat for a pair. I then phoned from Skype to a telephone (same person) and tested the reception again. This time, there was hardly any static at all (user feedback): their comment was that it was "much improved" from the previous wireless headset. I also got better range with the Plantronics as well.
In addition, the speech recognition seems to work a bit better too, and is actually working amazingly. Seems even better than my USB headset.
Furthermore, I tested some iTunes playback and no question the Plantronics has fuller, deeper, richer sound than the Logitech ClearChat headset.
The only thing I like better about the ClearChat headset is that you can quickly switch the headset off when you don't want it to be connected to the receiver.
With the Plantronics, you can quickly switch it on and off too, with auto-pairing (nice), but there is only one button, not a switch, which needs to be held down for 2 seconds to turn the unit off or on. The only issue is, unless the unit is off your head, you won't be able to see the solid blue light turn to red then off. So if you want to shut it off and leave it on your head, it is not possible to get confirmation from the headset that it is off. However, you will see the blue light flash on the receiver, from solid blue, and that is confirmation you have turned off your headset. But it also indicates the headset is out of range, so the only way to really know for sure that your headset is turned off is to remove them from your head and look to see if the light is off on the side.
Thus, the ClearChat's simple on/off switch is superior in this regard, where you can turn the unit off without the need to remove it from your head for confirmation. At any rate, this is sort of minor because most times you can be confident that a flashing blue light on the receiver indicates you have successfully turned off the headset, so you won't be needing to remove it.
And I like to power down the unit frequently to save on battery life...
As for battery life, I think the Plantronics is better than the ClearChat as well, and both demand roughly the same charging times. Of note, when you first get the unit, charging it may be a bit quirky. You should calibrate the battery (the ClearChat headset took 2 days before it was fully charged, for instance).
Other than that, do yourself a favor and get the Plantronics wireless headset. It is truly liberating to have the cords cut, and it works extremely well with speech recognition.
4.5 out of 5 stars, because of the on/off procedure and paltry instructions that do not explain how to turn the unit on/off. In addition, nothing is perfect. But a 4.5 out of 5 star rating for me is a huge compliment to anyone. I am very critical of everything, and demand a lot from my computing products. Plantronics: well done.
Remember, hold down the power button on the headset for 2 seconds ONLY to turn it on or off.
----------------------------
January 6, 2009 UPDATE:
I just wanted to update everyone. Just recently, the headset's power button broke (it wouldn't press any more: sort of stuck). I almost had a suspicion that it would happen because the power button feels a tad cheap and must be pressed and held down for a few seconds to power down the headset. Since I like to power down my headset often to save on battery life, the switch didn't hold up. I just received my new unit from Plantronics and it's charging. Customer service was pretty helpful. They express shipped it to me, which was nice, after sending in my old unit.
Now, do I stand by my review? Yes, yes, and, yes. Aside from a flimsy power button, the unit has worked as I have described. Speech, Skype, and music are the ticket items for this headset. All these latter work very well. Also, I just had a friend call me on Skype recently using the Plantronics 995 headset. It was on my recommendation that he bought the headset. He's got a standard cable internet connection with 1 mbps upload speeds. This is the first call I have received from someone who was using the Plantronics 995 headset.
The thing is, I did not know he was using it when he phoned me. When I picked up, and he started talking, I interrupted him and asked him what kind of microphone he was using. He said the Plantronics 995. I was blown away by the quality of the audio. It sounded so good like it was in stereo sound. I had to smile because I was the one who recommended this to him, on the pretense of a boatload of research and testing. As the conversation took course, I just was smitten by how well it sounded. That right there was confirmation enough to me that this headset is 'for real'. It sort of concluded my testing.
Since I didn't know he was using the Plantronics 995 Headset, it puts that extra layer of validity into my testing. This was no 'placebo' effect. I noticed the quality of the sound without knowing he was using the 995 headset. If you read my entire review, and this update, I think you would agree that my testing is rigorous enough to pass the standards set in the context of the scientific method. Far too many reviews float around the internet with giant holes in their testing methods. I am not tooting my own horn, I am just stating the facts. I put this through some objective testing to prove to you, the reader and consumer, that this headset works as I have described.
I have a feeling this headset is going to be a sort of 'cult classic'. That is, one of those landmark products in a category that struggles to define itself. Although the power button is a bit flimsy, Plantronics really got it right with this. Call quality is incredible on Skype, music has thick, rich sound, and speech recognition just works. This is really the freelancer's/home user's/business user's competitive advantage.
So, like I said, go get liberated, and pick up the Plantronics 995. You won't look back. Rest assured the hard work, the research has already been done for you. I'll stand by this review for all my waking days.
As I spent a lot of time researching, writing, and updating this review, maybe you can take a minute and comment! Let me know what you think. Thank you!
Sincerely,
//Amazonman//

This is our second set of these headphones and we have been very happy with the quality. At this price we expected some minor "issues" but they have performed well. My husband has hearing loss as does a friend. The two guys each put on a set of the headphones and they run off a single base (you can't charge while using headphones though!). When you first turn them on ... you hear hiss but once you have sound coming through it disappears. These have very good range as well. I have a split level home and we can go up a set of stairs and to the opposite far end of the house (even behind a closed door) and the sound comes through! They hold a charge very nicely but when they go ... they go with a pop and that is it. I love to use them late at night to watch our big screen without bothering those sleeping in the house.

Audio Unlimited SPK-9110 900MHz Wireless Stereo Headphones Review

Audio Unlimited SPK-9110 900MHz Wireless Stereo Headphones
Average Reviews:

Ive been using wireless phones for a great many years and have been disappointed more times than not. I tried these because Ive learned that price does not always match performance when it comes to wireless headsets. From the first time I walked around my house with these on I noticed that they have a much greater range than most costing allot more.
I also noticed they are secure and comfy. Anyone looking for a first set of wireless phones will not do better than these for the money. They sound better than my three times the price Sony phones and are interference free when adjusted properly. In fact they perform better than any others I have ever owned so far (about six different brands and price ranges). I can even walk outside and empty the garbage or do a little gardening around the house and still I hear no breaks in audio.
And one final hint for these things is get some higher amp hour rated batteries. They ship with 500mah so replacing them with some Lenmar or Ultralast 800-1000mah types greatly increases the run time. Just make sure they are the NiMh type.
Try them you will like them.

Headset, HT820, Bluetooth Stereo Review

Headset, HT820, Bluetooth Stereo
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
To start this review I just want to say that I started off very skeptical of this product. I didnt like the look of the headphones and didnt understand how wireless music could sound better than music sent over a cord. I ran into a deal using a corporate discount that made these headphones about $11.50 so I picked them up and here is what I have experienced:
:-:Music Playback:-:
The actual music playback is amazing. The bass is great as well as the actual sound quality. I am using the LGVX9900 from Verizon Wiress as my source device and I couldnt be happier. The actual headphones can get almost air tight over your ear which boosts the bass quality and how intense the sound sounds.
5/5
:-:Mic Quality:-:
I have owned a couple bluetooth headsets since they actually launched and I have to say that this one truly competes. Dispite all being the same technology it really does depend on the phone you have and the service you are using. With my 9900 this device is rockin. I hear the person clear as day and in return so do they. I havent run into any situation where the person on the other end hears an echo like you may find with pervious headsets.
Mic Quality = 4/5
:-:Range:-:
Once again this kind of thing depends on your source device but I can say with my 9900 I was able to walk all over the house without keeping the phone on me and I heard everything as well as if I was standing next to the phone. Sure it will start to cut out if you are far enough, but this is farther than I was able to go with any of my actual bluetooth headsets.

:-:Comfort:-:
From what I am sure you have read from other reviews the comfort of the headset is sometimes an issue. I too have found instances of this but I think it is something that needs to be specified. The headset can work itself into an uncomfortable position but this is easily fixed. I found this position occuring when I bent down to pick things up. All you have to do is re-adjust it and your fine. It's not a huge deal but I could live without it.

:-:Design and Features:-:
Design is a big thing now adays. Everything is jazzed up to make it appeal to whatever market or demagraphic the manufactuer wants. The actual look of the headphones is nice. Sleek design with combined with a nice shape and concept adds to the flare. The problem I have with it is that it sticks out a bit. We call it the Princess Leiah (or however it is spelled) cause it looks like the buns she sported in the movie. The headphones also have a volume up and down button on the left as well as a forward or previous song control on the right ear. It also has a slot so you can actually hook the headset up to non-Bluetooth devices. This works extremely well for my laptop which I do music editing with but doesnt support bluetooth devices. All extra features are extremely handy. With these headphones it isnt about appearance but the quality of the experience your having while using it...and that experience is good.

:-:Overall:-:
Overall this headset rocks. With what I know now I would be more than happy to pay $100 for it if needed. This is my first Bluetooth stero headset that I have purchased but I feel i'm starting off strong. I love this headset and I think others would too.

Sennheiser Remanufactured RS 110 OpenAire Supraural RF Wireless Headphones with Enhanced Bass Review

Sennheiser Remanufactured RS 110 OpenAire Supraural RF Wireless Headphones with Enhanced Bass
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, a note on buying these remanufactured (I'm not taking off a star since this is lumped with the NEW RS-110 reviews):
They say here 'remanufactured to like-new condition'--a bit of an overstatement...I can see noticable scratches on the phones and a fairly small chip of plastic is missing from the corner of the transmitter (but I'm pretty fussy and notice that stuff).
Still, condition is good and earpads look new (thank goodness). Comes with all accessories and panasonic AAA's. Still, for the savings (1/2 price) I can deal with some surface marks. I'm satisfied with my choice to buy remanufactured, but next time I might opt to buy new. If scratches will bother you, buy new.
Now about the phones:
Reviews that say they are plug and listen are true. I first had to find the battery compartment (well disguised behind one of the earpads)...just turn the pads sideways (eitherside) to reveal what's behind them.
The reception is good, note I'm using these in a residential neighborhood....when I get back to college I'll update. I walked outside and to opposite sides of my house and to the basement...still soundin' good. Once in a while I do get some static, but (for me) it isn't constant or common enough to make this an annoyance....living in a city area or apt might cause more interference (more wireless phones etc).
The sound: Nice base, not too heavy, just right. The sound is really crisp and clear. I use these to listen to my music (CDs and LPs) and DVD's wirelessly. They seem pretty comfortable despite size, the padding on the top and the earpads is very soft. They do look hilarious on me (according to my sister I look like I should be DJing). As with most wireless phones these are big cans, but they aren't ugly...just BIG. And since I'm wearing them mostly indoors, I'm not worried about the size.
Recommended for a good priced and good sounding wireless headphone.
