RCA WHP141 900MHZ Wireless Stereo Headphones Review

RCA WHP141 900MHZ Wireless Stereo Headphones

This is our second set of these headphones and we have been very happy with the quality. At this price we expected some minor "issues" but they have performed well. My husband has hearing loss as does a friend. The two guys each put on a set of the headphones and they run off a single base (you can't charge while using headphones though!). When you first turn them on ... you hear hiss but once you have sound coming through it disappears. These have very good range as well. I have a split level home and we can go up a set of stairs and to the opposite far end of the house (even behind a closed door) and the sound comes through! They hold a charge very nicely but when they go ... they go with a pop and that is it. I love to use them late at night to watch our big screen without bothering those sleeping in the house.

Audio Technica ATHM40FS Precision Studio Headphones Review

Audio Technica ATHM40FS Precision Studio Headphones
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This review is for:
Audio Technica ATHM40FS Precision StudioPhones
First of all right out of the package they look expensive. They do not look cheaply made and the matte black coloring and shape of these headphones is pleasing to the eye.
From the top down:
The headband is approximately two inches wide and covered even on the top with some type of soft to the touch material. The underside of the headband is very well padded and the padding extends almost down to the hinge where the earpieces are connected to the headpiece. The padding is nice and squishy, but not so much that you can feel the hardness underneath. The thickness of the padding is approximately 3/4 of an inch thick.
These earphones are very light, I've been wearing them all day with no neck fatigue, or headache from too much pressure around the ears.
The tension of the headband is enough to hold the earphones on my head, but they rest comfortably without pressure around my ears.
The hinges where the earpieces meet the body are made from some type of heavy duty, hard plastic(I don't know the technical name for it). The hinges are nice and thick. They look well made and able to take a lot of use.
The earpieces:
The shape is sort of an elongated oval. They are lined all the way around by padding that is approximately 3/4 of an inch thick, and one inch wide, and they're covered by the same velvety soft material as the headband padding. This padding feels wonderful against the skin. The padding that touches the skin is flattened to fit against the head better, giving these headphones excellent sound squelching qualities.
The inside of each earpiece is oval in shape and the inside depth is between 1/2 and inch and 3/4 of an inch. The inside wells that hold the speakers are covered with some type of soft fabric as well.
The holes under the fabric where the speakers are located are shifted slightly toward the back side of the ear pieces.
The outside housing is a some type of matte black high density plastic, and the R and L on each one is molded into the plastic rather than being painted on so that it won't rub off eventually.
The hinges:
Move smoothly and easily. There are two sets of them. One allows the earpieces to be rotated out when they're being worn, so outside noises or conversation can be heard without taking them completely off. They're made of matte black high density plastic also. They're nice and thick, and the part that attaches the earpieces to the headband meets the headband smoothly. If you didn't know the seam was there, you'd probably miss it. Each earpiece can be rotated out to the front approximately 180 degrees, and to the back considerably less.
The other set of hinges are the same color and material, and they fit sleekly against the earpieces in their own grooves, giving the earpieces a smooth appearance when on the head. There is nothing sticking out, and it's very aesthetic. When they're on the head the hinges and earpieces look like they're all one piece. I don't know who designed them, but whoever it is they're smart, LOL.The Cord:
Runs from the left earpiece, and is not reinforced at the point it meets the earpiece. The cord is very long and has a nice thickness to it. It's not flimsy at all. If you don't need the length, I suggest tying it up with a zip it, or something similar, to keep it out of the way. I like the length personally. If you're like me and you forget you're wearing these headphones and get out of your chair to get something it doesn't pull everything off the shelf:D
The cord terminates in a 1/4 stereo plug, and is reinforced at the back end of the plug with a flexible metal spring that's approximately an inch long. The plug itself is textured for easy gripping.
If you're going to use these headphones for your: computer, tv, portable CD player or whatever. You're going to need to buy a 3.5 mm adapter because these headphones don't come with one in the box, like some of the other Audio Tecnica headphones.
But it's easy to find an adpater, and not much hassle. You can buy adapter kits. There is an adapter kit with four different sizes of adapters, right here on Amazon for 5.00 or so. Sound and audio stores should have them as well as electronics stores, I think even Wally World has them. Radio Shack has a kit that's a little different from the one here on Amazon, but it still has four different sized adapters. Just make sure you get a stereo to stereo adapter, not stereo to mono adapter. Isolation:
These really do a good job. When I'm listening to music I don't hear anything else unless the sound is extremely loud.
The sound:
The sound of music through these is excellent. I can hear everything the way it was meant to be heard. Nothing added or taken away. But listening pleasure is subjective. I really enjoy the music I hear through these headphones just playing MP3s on my computer without a fancy sound card on my computer. DVD movies sound very good also. The soundtracks sound great.
The longer I listen the better music sounds through these headphones.
The highs aren't sharp and grating, and the mid range is there, the lows are smooth and present. Nothing is muddy sounding to me. All the sounds are separated and discernible but not so sharply delineated that it picks the music to pieces with one drowning out the other. Everything is nicely balanced and flows together like music should. It sounds like I'm hearing a live performance. The bass is there, but it is NOT very pronounced and isn't the focus.
I don't hear any distortion at a higher volume, but then again I can't stand very loud music, it hurts my ears. You don't have to turn these all the way up to hear decently. I'm listening to Illumination by Hemi- Sync right now and I've got my system volume turned up to 3/4 and Winamp volume is at 9%, and that's quite enough to enjoy the music. I can still hear everything very well with no interference from outside noise.
The music accompanies the singer rather than drowning them out. If you enjoy the lyrics, like me, as much as the music, then these headphones are fantastic. The lyrics are very easy to understand, and the voice of the singer is perfectly presented.
Meatloaf "Life is a Lemon" sounds heavenly through these, and so does Garth Brooks "Friends in Low Places". Pink Floyd sounds divine, and so does John Denver. Mozart sounds great too. PussyCat Dolls "Don'tcha" sounds just as good to me. Rammstein - Blade Theme (Techno Remix) sounds as good as all the rest. Roberta Flack is as close to blues as I've gotten yet, and she sounds amazing. Minnie Ripperton's "Loving You" Sounds good too. I haven't listened to anything jazzier. Pantera sounds good, and so do the Heavy Metal soundtracks( 1 and 2). I hope that gives you some idea about the range of music that sounds great with these headphones. Meditation music sounds great also.Summation:
These are excellent quality headphones for the price. Someone put a lot of thought and effort into designing these. I always look at the details, and if someone paid attention to those I know they care about their product.
These headphones are light and comfortable on the head, and about the ears. They can be worn comfortably for extended periods of time without causing a headache. I believe they provide enough isolation, and outside sound dampening, to satisfy most music afficianados.
If you're looking for very pronounced bass, don't buy these unless you want to adjust the the bass to your satisfaction on your music source.
All in all I'm very pleased with these headphones, and I would buy them again. The price and the quality make this set of headphones an excellent buy.
On a sidenote: The customer service people are very nice. I emailed the customer service department for the amplitude range on another set I was eyeballing which are also made by audio Technica. The frequency response of headphones means nothing if the amplitude is way out of whack. It took about a week for them to answer but he very nice fellow who answered sent me JPGs of the amplitude graphs for the set I asked about, and another set. I'm sure he probably had to hunt the graphs down and then make a file to attach it to the email he sent me. Now that is customer service! Kudos to Audio Technica for their customer service. And that was before the sale!
The two sets were: Audio Technica ATH-A700 Closed-Back Dynamic Headphones With Double Air Damping and Audio Technica ATH-AD700 Open-air Dynamic Headphones.
If you're interested the amplitude range on the ATH-AD700 was much more flat than the ATH-A700, with less variation overall.
Alrighty then, that's all I can think of at the moment.
I'm enjoying my music on these very same headphones while I'm typing away.

Pioneer SE-A1000 Lightweight Audiophile AV Over-Ear Headphones (Black) Review

These headphones do not cancel any noise from coming out or coming in, but they are not suppose to. The audio quality is the main focus here. The bass could be a little beefier but overall good blend. I think the best part about these headphones are the level of comfort. This set just lays on your head without any force and you can wear them for hours at a time. I would recommended these based off of sound and comfort. Just don't trip over the 6 m cable.

Sennheiser HD 580 Dynamic HiFi Professional Headphone Review

Sennheiser HD 580 Dynamic HiFi Professional Headphone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Firstly, I want to mention that this is the 7th headphone I have purchased. I have/had the Grado RS1, 325i, Westone UM2, Grado SR80, SR60 and Sennheiser HD497. For this revew, I am basically going to compare it to the Westone UM2, Grado 325i and Grado RS1.
!. The Comfort: The comfort level of this headphone is outstanding. For short durations of up to 2 hours, it is second to the Westone UM2 (IEM). But since I find wearing an IEM without custom ear mould not comfortable more than 2 hours, the HD580 is the winner here. Coming from the Grado, I find the circum aural (covering the entire ear) design of the Sennheiser a welcome change. The headphones was once (when it was released) regarded as on of the most comfortable headphones, so you really cannot go wrong with this one.
2. Construction: Overall.. Excellent construction. Though my plastic Grill is not cosmetically perfect, it made of a hard plastic and will withstand daily strenuous use. The headphones feels very sturdily build and backed up by Sennheisers 5 year warrantee if purchased from an authorized dealer, you can have a very pleasing usage for many many years to come.
3. Sound :-)..: THE MOST IMPORTANT CATEGORY: I am going to divide this into sub-points:
(a)For Slow Rock like U2, Scorpions, Rainbow, Pearl Jam, Morphine, Little River Band, Eagles etc, it really boils down to your personal preference. Though I would say that most people the Grado RS1 will easily outperform the HD580, it should be noted that the RS1 is $550 more expensive. Having said that, I can still imagine many people preferring the Sennheiser sound signature.
If you haven't ever listened to a Grado or a high end Sennheiser, Byerdynamic, AKG etc before and if you are coming from a Bose or other low quality headphones, you can be assured that the HD580 will blow you off right of your feet. I am a fairly critical listener and have spend more than $2500 on headphone related gear and I can assure you that for $150, I would doubt if the HD580 has any serious rivals.
I hate pop music, but I can imagine that it will fit in this section.
(b)For Metal & Hard Rock: Seriously, if this is your category of primary interest, then you really really ought to get yourself a Grado instead. I have read many folks claim that they are very satisfied with the Sennheiser performing Metal and Hard Rock.... With all sincerity I can assure you that those are mostly folks have not owned a higher Grado or very rare people with very rare kind of music taste. Personally, I cannot stand the HD580 playing Metal, not even for one song.. may be I because I have been thoroughly spoiled by the Grados :-(.... :-). Again, if you have not owned any of the above mentioned high end headphones, you may be happy with the HD580... but if you really want real adrenalin flow for this genre of music, you have to get a Grado.
(c)Classical - Yanni, Mozart, Beethoven etc...: This is the definitive category that the Sennheisers have been made for. The HD580 makes even the $700 Grado RS1 sound like a joke. I never imagined that I liked classical so much before this HD580. Man.. I can go on and on how well the HD580 performs in this genre... its simply almost perfect, probably beaten by only the HD600 or the HD650. Without dispute, Classical is Sennheisers home ground that I doubt if any other brand dare challenge.
(d)Drivability: Although the HD580 can be driven to satisfactory volume using mediocre devices like PC soundcard etc. for this kind of high end headphones should be considering some sort of headphone amplification. After all you want to get the best out of your high end headphone.
OVERALL: The HD580 should satisfy almost any audiophile, but its far from being perfect. As I mentioned above, its strengths comes with some weakness too.
When stacked against with the Grado SR325i, I would be 50-45, that is 55% inclining towards the 325i. This is also considering that the 325i costs $300, almost double of the HD580. This could completely change if you listen more to Classical. For a Classical fan, the HD580 is a hands down winner
When stacked up against the Grado RS1, for me it is a 80-20. That is 80% inclined towards the Grado RS1, despite its $700 price tag... The wooden RS1 is simply too musical and in all genre except Pure-Classical, the RS1 beats the HD580 by a fairly large margin.
When stacked up against the Westone UM2: :-) Well, there is no comparing an IEM with a full sized can. An IEM will find it really hard to outperform a full sized can.
In conclusion, this a Headphone that deserves 5 starts without exception... particularly when considering it costs only $150 or so. IF you listen to lots of music, your ears will thank you for getting this.

BlueAnt Stereo Bluetooth Headset - X5i Review

BlueAnt Stereo Bluetooth Headset - X5i
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There are two things that can annoy faster than anything else: having to spend 5 minutes untangling headphone cords before listening to music, or having a wires running around all over the place when active. For example, when riding a bicycle, one has to run wires down clothing, which tends to pull the earbuds out or the headphones off.
Research indicated there were very few options in wireless headphones that were affordable and would beam music wirelessly from source to headphones. Most solutions seemed to include a rather large base that remained somewhat fixed near a home media source. The Blueant X5 stereo headphones are about the only affordable, portable wireless solution available.
These headphones work absolutely perfectly, if all you ever do is listen to one device plugged into the base transmitter. Right out of the package, the headphones connect to the base and music plays through them immediately with no real work at all. They are portable, sound really great, and the specialized battery packs get about 16 hours before they need recharging. The range on them for a bluetooth device is pretty impressive, certainly enough to have the transmitter ride along with an iPod shuffle or other MP3 player in a fanny pack or backpack while riding.
They work perfectly, that is, once you get them working the first time and never change the setup. They don't work as perfectly if you try to take advantage of the other capabilities Blueant offers in these.
For example... these headphones can pair with a cell phone, and be used to take phone calls, which is perfect during the workday. The recent firmware upgrade (we won't even get into what a nightmare that was to try to do, but it DID work) makes things a LITTLE easier to re-connect to the previous phone, but trying to get the unit to balance between what it should connect to and when it should connect can be tricky at best, further complicated by the cryptic flashing blue and red lights (which I found in many cases indicate different things than the user guide said they were).
And now we get into more of the negatives. The battery packs are proprietary, and belong only to this device, meaning if you want a new one or a spare, you have to buy it through Blueant. So far, I haven't needed new ones. When plugging in the units to charge, the base transmitter automatically starts itself up, and refuses to shut off. Then, plugging in the headphones at the same time seems to lead to some weird pairing where you can't get everything to shut off, or the headphones to charge. They may be charging; the lights just don't seem to indicate that.
Next, a couple of design flaws.
-Flaw #1: the microphone plugs into the headphones in the same place as the USB/charge cable does. This wouldn't be a problem, except the microphone is tiny, and I am constantly forgetting to plug the microphone back in after charging, meaning I can't use this device to talk on my cell phone because the mic is sitting on my desk at home.
-Flaw #2: the wire that runs from L to R on the headphones itself is not enclosed, and continuously "escapes", making it vulnerable to breaking. Fortunately a small amount of electrical tape remedies this.
-Flaw #3: the batteries seem awfully easy to dislodge just enough to lose power, meaning you've shut off either the headphones, or the transmitter, or both. It happens every so often, usually when I try to click on the "accept call" button.
Learning what all the buttons do, and how they do it, if you want to pair with other devices, is its own form of complex programming. It seems like just when everything is working the way it should be, the headphones lose connection and re-pairing is needed with devices.
Overall, I'm giving these a 4. I'd give them less, except they really are the only feasible wireless headphone solution of their kind, which offers portability and the ability to connect to any device with a headphone jack. They are perfect for someone who exercises, especially on a bicycle or other equipment where a wire can cause a somewhat dangerous situation sometimes. Despite the difficulty, I am usually able to use them to talk on my cell phone during the workday, and the sound is very clear and stereo (makes phone calls a little weird, but they SOUND great). It just seems like Blueant could make them function a little easier, and fix a few simple design flaws, and this product would easily be a 5, no question.
For the money I paid, and what I use them for, they are a still a good value, despite some of the headaches, and should make any audiophile happy about not having to deal with extra wires or being connected to devices without sacrificing sound quality.

Sennheiser HD555 Professional Headphones with Sound Channeling Review

Sennheiser HD555 Professional Headphones with Sound Channeling
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is an excellent pair of headphones for those (few) of us who like classical music. I've used these headphones with a player that has no bass/treble controls, and found that the headphone sound is well balanced throughout the spectrum. The bass does not boom, something that you don't want in classical music. It is there, but balanced as it should be.
I've noted that when playing something like Haydn's Cello Concerto, the solo instrument hits you right in the middle of your head -which is where it shoud be -, and the orchestra surrounds it from far left to right.
Other reviewers have mentioned that the open format of these headphones results in large sound leakage into the air around you. I've found that the leakage is quite small, and not noticeable a couple feet away. Then again I don't crank the sound up to 100 decibels.
As for the complaint about the plug, I've had no problems in this regard. It fits snugly into phone jack, and seems well made.
My only very trivial complaint is that I sometimes use these on my portable DVD player while lying in bed, in which case the very long cord is a bit of a nuisance. My personal preference would have been a short cord plus a detachable cord extension.
These headphones are great for just about any kind of music.

Sennheiser HD800 Over-Ear Circum-Aural Dynamic Premiere Headphone Review

Sennheiser HD800 Over-Ear Circum-Aural Dynamic Premiere Headphone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am not a golden ear audiophile. I don't know what it means to hear "the air between the strings" and other such audiophile descriptions. More power to those that can -- I am simply not able to do so. I do however know that music is and always has been my greatest entertainment, and that as I have grown older, my ability to pay higher dollar for my equipment has also grown. No way could I have had these headphones in past times. No way could I have justified their cost. Other priorities would have always taken precedence over these. But now that I can afford them, I still debated and agonized over the cost, but in the end decided I would go for them. Am I glad? Absolutely. They are without question the best sounding headphones I have ever heard. I could hear the difference straight out of the box, I did not even do "A to B" comparisons to know how good they sounded. I did do comparisons with my HD600 to HS650 upgrade and was never sure I heard much difference. Not so with the HD800s.
Here is the best way I can describe them. When I was young, I would listen to a lot of music particularly nice in headphones. I am talking Yes, King Crimson, Pink Floyd and many others. I am a child of the 60's/70's so I would often be a bit "altered' while listening. In those days a pair of Koss headphones, a little "substance", and the latest King Crimson album would lend to a headphone experience whereby I would believe I was literally dreaming the music. (A very nice state). But as time went on, the subtances went away, the latest King Crimson album I had in mind (Larks Tounge in Aspic) is almost 40 years old now, and my hearing ain't what it used to be.

All that was said to lead up to this. With these headphones on (no substances), I am dreaming the music again. The above mentioned artists, and now with music such as Chick Corea and Miles Davis thrown in the mix, sounds like they are in and around my head like they have not been in those 40 gone by years.
I would conclude that these headphones are worth the cost if you are in a position to put out that kind of money AND you really love your music. But be warned --- once you hear these, there's no going back to lesser headphones.

Amp'd Mobile Noise Canceling Headphone XQS-109 - Blackberry 3.5mm, Iphone, Iphone 3G and more Review

Amp'd Mobile Noise Canceling Headphone XQS-109 - Blackberry 3.5mm, Iphone, Iphone 3G and more

Hey Matas Empakeris! Remember, these headphones are intended for use in noisy environments, such as trains, planes and automobiles. Just bought this 1 week ago and it *does reduce* surround noise. Of course, if you try them out at home in a silent environment, you hear some noise. But even then you still have the option of turning the noise cancelling off and use them as ordinary headphones.
As for the fit, you may have a point, I have experienced more comfortable headphones than this one. But then again I have no problem to keep them on during a train ride of 40 minutes easily. I use them with or without music on (just for the noise canceling). And, for 17,00, this is really a bargain. At least I'm happy with it. Fits perfectly with my smartphone.

Hesdphones are junk, sound horrible and cut volume in half. The adapter worked fine for a few months, then the black wire cover started to pull off of both sides (both adapter plugs). Then the left ear started cutting in and out. Got about 2 months worth of good use out of this, now it is worthless.

Sony DRBT100CX Ear Bud Style Stereo Bluetooth Headset Review

Sony DRBT100CX Ear Bud Style Stereo Bluetooth Headset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
OK, understand that I am VERY particular about my gadgets and read tons of reviews before ever purchasing anything... my wife absolutely hates it, but it keeps me from having to return crap. In this case, I spent a good 15 - 20 hours in all researching bluetooth headphones.
I previously owned a pair of the BestBuy brand Insignia headphones which have started to crap out over the past few months. While I am not a super heavy runner, these seemed to stand up to the sweat OK, but rather started having a pairing issue when connecting them to my Iphone... About 1 out of every 20 times I would connect, it would somehow lockup the headphones and I would be unable to get them to pair again until I had let the headphones fully discharge. This became a big problem for me as I would then have to go for about a week w/o my bluetooth headphones every time that they would lock up. That said, it was time for a new pair.
When initially searching for my next set, I was looking at the Motorolla S9's, as these seemed to be intended for people who worked out with their headphones. I was discouraged however by the $99 price tag at the time and the so-so reviews and decided to wait. Upon the S9 HD's releasing, I almost bit the bullet and bought, however continued to hear bad reviews and that ANY sweat whatsoever seemed to break the headphones and warrant a return. This was not the quality that I was looking for and therefore I decided to wait some more.
Next I came across the Plantronics 903. This seemed to be a better contender than the S9's, however still only had so-so reviews and sounded as they may have some similar hardware issues that the S9 suffered from.
Next I started looking at the JayBird JB-200-01, as these are suppose to be nearly waterproof and much more solid than the Motorollas or the Plantronics. That said, they still had a large price tag (much more than the S9 and S9 HD's now) and I began seeing a trend of only so-so audio quality... While I am not expecting a bluetooth headset to match the quality of a standard wired pair, I would like to make sure that I am at least relatively pleased with my $100+ headphones so that I am not looking to replace them in another 6 months. Also, while these headphone look very cool in the pics, I think I would feel somewhat goofy wearing these cyborg like headphones in the gym.
Finally I thought I had found my headphone with the Sony DRBT160AS. These might still be a little goofy looking and some users have said that the back side of these push your ears out very bad.... Still though the reviews seemed to be mostly positive (newegg, amazon, sony, etc). I was just about to order them when I cam across the Sony DRBT100CX/SLV....
The first thing that caught my eye was the great reviews, next to a price that was half of what all of the other headphones I had looked at cost. Previously I had a huge biased against earbud style headphones, however upon purchasing a pair of skull candy headphones a few months back to hold me over, realized how far the earbud has come along. Earbuds now can offer the deep base and 'semi noise canceling' effect that over the ear headphones use to only provide. Additionally, you dont have to worry about having a large uncomfortable plastic piece dangling behind your head when going down for a bench press. One thing that has been a problem for me with earbuds is that I have smaller ear canals, and I would always have to re-push back in the earbud to get the seal to have a good sound... with this pair I was please that it came with 3 different sizes of adapters to fit my ears. The only thing that I was, and still am a bit, weirded out by with this set is that it has the clip with the actual bluetooth adapter on a wire about 24 inches from the headphones themself. This means that you will have to clip these to your shirt or belt area... this almost defeats the purpose of bluetooth headphones, as this means wires hanging down your shirt and the fact that to adjust the volume you have to go to your belt area and not your ear. It is almost like wearing an iPod nano. Still though I decided that this would be the way to go, as everyone seemed very happy with theirs.
Upon receiving them in only a matter of days, i quickly have unboxed these and paired them up with my iPhone with ease. I am tall at 6'3", and I would have preferred about another 6 inches on the wire to the receiver portion of the headphones, as I can just barely stand up straight and not have this tugging down on my ears... anyone taller would deff be annoyed by this. While not an audiophile, the sound is pretty damn good, especially considering the fact that they are bluetooth..in fact, I can barely tell that there is any loss of quality. This may be partially to do with the iPhones superior bluetooth, as my previous pair sounded pretty good on the iPhone but sounded pretty crappy on a WinMo phone that I previously used. I cant remember what pair of headphones it was, but one said that it had a very short range and would not suggest it for more than a few feet away... I just forgot my phone in my office and walked out into our warehouse, where at one point I was well over 75 feet away and had several wall in between... I was blown away! My previous set did not give me even a 1/3 of that distance. Now I am not saying everyone will get 75 feet as that seemed odd to me, but I am in an office where I rarely even have a cell connection because there is so much interference in this area.
I am sure that there is plenty more to talk about, and there are several other headphones that I looked at as well, but my overall suggestion is that as long as you are not taller than me (or would just clip this to your shirt top) that this is a great pair of headphones and well worth the money!
Hope this helps someone! Ill update this if I find anything negatives, but for now I am very happy with my purchase.
