(More customer reviews)If people love cats or hate them, the T10 headset phone is no different. So many reviews were critical, I hesitated to even try one. But I'm glad I ordered a T10, and it's a keeper. Instead of giving the phone a good workout for several months, I'll review it now so as to report my initial experiences and address the complaints.

The Headset Cord is over 6 ft. long, a plus. It plugs into the Headset Jack on the base. (The Oct 17, 2002, review stating that it's only 3 ft. long is outdated, and is alarmingly misleading.)

My unit does not make humming noises while in use, as some reported experiencing. This was a major concern, prior to purchase. (I have a DSL Internet connection for my computer, so I did need to plug the Line Cord into a DSL adapter, which plugs into the wall phone jack.)
The complaints about the Mute and On/Off buttons on the base being too close together? Yes, they are close. But they're also big, and they're labeled. The Mute button is 1? in. wide, and On/Off is 1? in. wide. Either button may be selected with ease, unless you're Bigfoot!
About the base's instability when you tap numbers in the top row. That did happen--but only when I placed the phone was way back on the table, and had to reach. I was dialing from a much lower angle than usual.
When the phone is closer, its natural to tap the numbers from a higher angle, and the unit remains adequately stable. That said, I would prefer that the unit's top surface was closer to parallel with its bottom, and not so high-angled. This may also present a lighting problem. If you happen to have a table lamp behind the base, as I do, it makes a shadow on the numbers--which are in their buttons' depressed tops.
I prefer using the headset, which feels light and comfortable. My head is fairly large, but the very expandable headband took care of that. I didn't need to bend the metal portion of the headband, as suggested, to make it any wider.
Adjusting Volume made incoming speech loud enough (and having a Tone control is a nice touch). But then my own voice was too loud in my ear. So I moved the Voice Boom tip two inches further away from my mouth (and may have spoken a little more softly without realizing it). The other person could still heard me loudly enough. And incoming and outgoing loudness were balanced for my ear! Perfecto!
I plan to use the T10 for any calls expected to last over 10 minutes. Especially, for tech phone help calls. Shades of that awful 4 hour call to India last year! My game plan is:

1) Make the call on the nearby cordless speakerphone.
2) Hands free, talk into the speaker to make menu choices.
3) Listen to the speaker while resuming work, and wait, wait, wait, for up to 30 minutes!
4) When a live person finally answers, ask them to wait a moment.
5) Press the speakerphone Hold button, slip the headset onto my head, and press the T10 On button. "Can you hear me now? Good!"

(More customer reviews)When in my home office, I am on the phone 5-7 hours a day. I have tried many combinations of phones and headsets and have never been satisfied with the voice quality. I also run a wireless network and have had problems in the past with 2.4 Ghz phones causing interference. The Plantronics CT12 is the answer to all my problems:
* portable - small belt unit is light, offers great battery life and includes all the features I need
* great headset - sound quality is equal to that of a handset (people do not know you are on a headset); comfortable with two fit options, Firefly function is nice bonus
* Caller-ID - included on belt unit, works as expected
* 2.4 Ghz - range is good, does not cause interference with my wireless network (previous phones from Panasonic and others have)
Only negative is that you cannot answer or otherwise use the phone while it is charging (must remove the belt unit from the charger). All in all, highly recommended.

Plantronics S12 Corded Telephone Headset System Review

(More customer reviews)Honestly, I bought the Plantronics S12 for the looks and for the price. Now that I am using it, I have discovered that it is much better than the higher priced units that are being used around my office.
On the left hand side of the unit there is a sliding switch so that you can modulate the headset to your telephone. This worked for me out of the box. Depending on your telephone, you may have some hiss on the line, but I have none.
On the right hand side there is a switch to set the microphone between high and low gain, and there is a dial to fine tune it within each of the settings. Out of the box, I sounded very loud in the ear piece and people could hear me typing. I set it to low gain, and moved the dial to the lowest setting. People can still hear me fine, I cannot hear myself in the speaker, and no one can hear me typing. This is fantastic! My previous headset could not turn down the gain this low, now I can use the mute button less!
The headset flashes a red light when you are on the phone. People will now know that they can interrupt even if you have your headset on, they just need to check for the flashing light. There will be a learning curve for this in my office, but it is a great idea.
And finally, the amplifier bas has a holder for the headset, a simple but wonderful idea that does not work so well with the over the head configuration, but it still works.
The only problem is that the Plantronics S12 has no battery backup. But if the power is out at the office, there is only so much you can do on the phone anyway and you don't need a headset then since you cannot type on your computer anyway.

Plantronics Cordless Headset Phone (CT14) Review

(More customer reviews)I received apparently one of the first Plantronics CT14 cordless headset telephones, and the bottom line is that there are no big surprises, which means I like the telephone given that I had high expectations in view of my previous experience with Plantronics quality. I did not have either of the previous models, CT12 or CT10, so I cannot compare to those. However at my office for a number of years I have been using a CS10 cordless headset system which works with a multi-line telephone, and I have become quite addicted to using a headset. Based on what I think is an objective test, the audio quality and volume of the CT14 are superb. The way I test that is to call my own voicemail and, during the same call, switch between various telephones while leaving a message. Then I listen to the recorded message, again switching among various telephones. That lets me hear the quality for myself, without relying on a person I am talking to for a report. One characteristic I am pleased to see included is that it is possible to chain dial from recorded numbers in the "phonebook." Thus, when I use a calling card with a 1-800 access number I can then access the PIN in the phonebook to have that dialed as well, followed by the number of the person I am calling. With some other telephones, after you have used the "phonebook" and the call is in progress, the directory scrolling keys change to a different function (e.g. volume) and all the remaining numbers must be dialed by hand. The only negative thing I have to say about the CT14 is that there is a higher level of background noise than I am accustomed to, which I suspect (but do not know for sure) is an inherent part of the DECT 6.0 technology which uses a single frequency band for both sides of the conversation, and uses time division duplex. So, digitally, a lot is going on behind the scenes, and I think I am hearing digital artifacts. This is mitigated somewhat because there is ample volume. So the volume can be turned down, which reduces the background noise, while still being able to hear the person on the other side. At some point I may compare to another DECT 6.0 telephone, or attempt to see what Plantronics has on this issue. (Update: I called Plantronics and a very pleasant rep assured me that the background noise I am hearing is not normal. The background should be quiet. He gave me an RMA number to send back the telephone for a replacement, but before I do that I am going to try the telephone someplace else. It is possible there is some sort of electrical interference unique to my house. Now that I finally have this telephone, I am very reluctant to part with it for any length of time. I really like it.) Earlier complaints regarding the predecessor CT12 concerned interference with Wi-Fi networks, and it seems clear that is not a problem with the CT14. The CT14 operates on a different frequency band (1920-1930 MHz versus 2400-2500 MHz), and that is an advertised feature of the CT14.

-the mic is closer to your mouth so your voice will sound better and clearer than a Bluetooth headset where the mic is way up by your ear. I tried a wireless Bluetooth headset and my voice always sounded distant and callers could hear ambient room noise around me. They said I sounded like I was using a speakerphone. But when I use this wired headset, they say my voice is quite clear and loud.
-it's easier to just plug in this wired headset at any time than fool around with the settings for syncing with the Bluetooth when you want to be on headset.
-This headset is easier to carry with you than a Bluetooth one and no AC adapater charger or battery is required.
-This headset is cheaper than a Bluetooth headset and in fact comes bundled with some RAZR phones.
The only reason I'm not rating this headset 5 stars is that I agree with other reviews, the earpiece doesn't fit that snuggly in the ear. This is a minor complaint for me though as the headset does pretty much what I want it to do and it does it nicely.

All are great, but this is the best so far at less than half the cost of the last one. I have this one on a Vtech phone with the volume on the headset at the lowest level and the volume on the Vtech at the lowest setting and everything is loud and clear for me and for person I am speaking to... on land lines and wireless phones. It is very comfortable to wear unlike the other two Plantronics I own. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED at twice the price.

I purchased a Plantronics MX153-M1 (for $22 at an family-run electronics store a few blocks away from J&R Music and Computer World), the version of the MX150 made specifically for Motorola phones - v60, v70, v120, T720 and later phones. The MX153-M1 adds a push-button towards the upper-middle of its cord that enables the headset wearer to dial the last-dialed number, use voice-activated dialing, answer calls, and end calls without touching the phone. The MX153-N1 and MX153-N3 are push-button versions of the MX150 for Nokia phones. The base MX150 itself does not have the push-button and associated functionality.
The MX150's earbud is anchored to the wearer's ear by a soft rubber grip that wraps under and essentially clips the earlobe (pinna). It takes several seconds to fit the earbud and pivot the microphone boom to their proper angles; this must be done each time the wearer puts on the headset. The disadvantage of this fitting requirement is that if you are not already wearing the headset when your phone starts ringing, you are better off answering your phone the old-fashion way. Once fitted however, the MX150 is light and comfortable to point of being unnoticeable. The MX150's FlexGrip design (shared by the Plantronics MX100 family) is better than ear-loop designs that can get in the way of eyeglasses and sunglasses; headband designs that can pull on the wearer's hair; and classic earbud designs that can easily fall off. People with earrings may not be comfortable with the MX150 because of its grip on the ear's pinna.
In contrast to generic headset microphones that often make the wearer sound distant, the MX150's microphone performance is very good and makes the wearer sound clear and close to the phone. The noice-cancelling microphone does a good job of eliminating ambient noise - even inside a moving New York City subway car. The MX150 family does not have microphone volume control and microphone mute functions.
Earpiece performance is good. The MX150 lacks earpiece volume control, relying instead on the phone's volume control functions. As with any headset design lacking self-powered earpiece volume amplification, ambient noise may be an issue in open or noisy environments, e.g. a busy New York City street or subway car.
The MX150's price competition is with the Jabra ProBoom. The latter has battery-powered earpiece volume amplification, but consumers should carefully weigh this great advantage against the MX150's fit and weight benefits. The two competitors also differ in push-button support. The MX150 family has push-button models for Motorola and Nokia phones, while the ProBoom family has push-button models for Nokia and Samsung phones.
Of the three Plantronics headsets that I have purchased (the other two being the M175 and M100), the MX153-M1 is the best one that I have yet used.

Plantronics S11 Headset System Review

(More customer reviews)I work as tech support on a database product so I am on the phone ALL DAY. After 2 years of holding the phone to my ear while I write - I decided to look into headsets. My work place dumped $150 on a headset that didn't work and since then haven't bought another.
This is an awesome headset - if you can figure out how to set it up. It took me about 20 minutes to figure out how to get this working. Like most tech people I threw away the manual and just plugged everything in hoping that it would work. Well, the volume was super low - the listen/speak buttons didn't do anything - after a few other configuration settings I finally went back to the trash can to pick up the manual.
Set it up EXACTLY as the manual tells you to - Plug your phone's handset into the handset on the plantronics device - plug your plantronics headset into the south end of the plantronics device and then plug the plantronics telephone cord into your telephone's handset cord.
If you do that then the listen/speak volume will work - the mute button and headset/handset button will work allowing you to use your phone normally.
Once configured correctly callers told me they heard me VERY clearly - especially if I turned the Tx Level to hi. I have my listen volume ALL THE WAY DOWN and it is blasting my ear out.
If you do not set it up exactly as the manual tells you to - you will not be able to use your phone's headset, your phone's speakerphone, and your Plantronic's headset at your wish.
Read the manual - it is a must this time :) - this HEADSET ROCKS.

Plantronics CS-55 Dect 6.0 Digital Wireless Office Headset Review

(More customer reviews)I recently purchased this item and have used it for about a week so far. I'm very impressed with the range and this headset's ability to shield itself from interference. There simply is no "buzzing" while downloading email to my BlackBerry while on the phone with this thing. I'm sure I'll be upgrading my PBX telephone system soon to suit this headset better; I refuse to use the handset lifter, since that seems so old-school for a headset so technologically superior than any other wireless headset offering on the market. It's important to note that a headset band, three different sizes of over-the-ear-loops and about four ear pads are included with this package.
The only bad thing about it, I can't seem to get the sound amplified as I like it loud. I think it was too much loud music played from my iPod that blew out my hearing, so the sound level should be perfectly accommodating to other folks.
In short, you will not be disappointed by the Plantronics CS55.

Plantronics CS70/HL10 DECT 6.0 Bundle Wireless Headset System with Lifter Review

(More customer reviews)I have been using a GN Netcom 2.4GHz 9120-FLEX Wireless Headset with Noise-Canceling Flex Boom for the past couple of years and have been extremely impressed with the distance that I can travel from the base unit. I work in a large office building and the 9120 headset gets good reception from nearly one end of the building to the other. My biggest complaint with the 9120 is its size and weight. Wearing this large headset requires an over-the-head design, and the earpiece makes my ear rather hot because it covers the entire outside of the ear. The sound also produces a fair amount of echo, and callers have complained that my voice sounded somewhat quiet and thin. I was very excited to read positive reviews about the new Plantronics CS70. The newer DECT 6.0 technology has had my curiosity peaked for quite some time now and I decided that it was time for me to give this new technology a try with the Plantronics CS70/HL10 Wireless Headset and Lifter bundle.
I have been using this new Plantronics headset now for about 6 weeks. Setup was a real breeze. Plantronics has really gone out of their way to provide easy to follow instructions and an automated dial-in support line that helps you to set your input and output settings for this headset. The headset is fairly light and comfortable, which allows me to wear it constantly for several hours without any discomfort. The incoming sound quality is simply outstanding, and callers have told me that my voice sounds very good. The answer/end call button is large and easy to operate, but the volume up and down buttons on the headset are a bit small and stiff to operate. This headset also comes with several earpieces; some of which are foam covered tips and others are a gel type. The headset charges quickly and provides several hours of talk-time. The lifter kit was easy to install and works flawlessly. I just wish that there was a mute function for the ringer pickup microphone on the lifter, as loud noises in my office tend to set off the ringer in my headset. The GN Netcom 9120 had this mute function, which really came in handy. The boom microphone on the headset has some adjustment but is not flexible, so it tends to sit far away from your mouth. I find that this allows a slight wind noise when I am walking while talking. Overall I would give this headset 4 stars, based on sound quality and design alone.
Now, for the real reason behind my low overall score for this headset. Simply put, the range of this headset is extremely poor. While the 2.4GHz GN Netcom headset allowed me to walk from one end of the office building to the other, this Plantronics DECT 6.0 system barely lets me walk 50 feet from my office. If I am on the phone and want to walk to the closest kitchenette (roughly 45 feet from the base unit in my office), to fill my coffee pot with water, the call begins breaking up and the CS70 begins producing an "out of range" beeping sound in my ear. Seriously, I start losing my call when less than 50 feet from my desk! OK, I will admit that my office walls are constructed of cement blocks, which I'm sure is one reason for the poor signal quality, but come on, the 2.4GHz GN Netcom 9120 headset worked flawlessly in the same environment. Two weeks ago I ordered another one of these CS70/HL10 headset kits, just in case mine was defective. The results are pretty much identical, barely letting me walk out the door of my office before showing signs of signal disruption.
I really, REALLY wanted this headset to work well. It is very comfortable to wear, has great sound quality, and has a rather high-tech look about it. However, the ridiculously poor signal quality makes this new Plantronics CS70 headset a real dissapointment. I have long been a loyal fan of their products, but unfortunately this DECT 6.0 headset does not meet the normal quality standards that the Plantronics name has been known for. It is with great distress that I have to give this product 2 stars, and I honestly cannot recommend it to anyone unless they plan to remain very close to the base unit. =o(

The sound quality is better than the handset and the range is off the hook. As a independent Computer Consultant is important for me to have both hands free this fits that bill very nicely, it allows me to be more productive and give a professional service to my customers... I love this product!!!!
Just a qick update, I've been using this headset everyday for the last 2 years and it's still going strong, its been a life saver with business allowing me to multitask while working. It is expensive but I've already had my money's worth from it. Great value for the money
