BOSE(R) Triport Headphone - Silver Review

BOSE(R) Triport Headphone - Silver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I skipped all the reviews about how fragile these were and went out and bought some anyway. One of the reasons I bought these over anything else is that they are light. I hate big and bulky headphones. My primary usage for these headphones is an Ipod. From my understanding, certain more expensive large headphones have problems producing loud volumes in portable devices. These headphones have no such problems.
It was hard to go and purchase these. So many people think BOSE makes junk and just believe what they hear and just keep spreading it around. Go out and try the products for yourself first. I almost skipped them because I almost wanted to believe BOSE made stuff that wasn't any good.
Anyway, I tried these and they brought new life to my music. Everything sounded so much better than my Sony Fontopia headphones. Such an amazing difference. I also quite frequently prefer using these headphones with my ONKYO receiver to watch DTS movies. This is over $1000 home theater speakers.
Now onto the bad news. Yes, they ARE fragile. Very fragile. Within 4 months the plastic piece holding the ear piece broke and now if I want to listen to them I have to hold them up to my head like one of those old telephones. Ok, I don't do that, but I was so dissappointed all day. Not only that but I lost my receipt and couldn't return them or get a replacement. I was wrong. The nice people at BOSE let me send them back for a replacement. That's good service! No phone calls, no waiting on hold. All done by email in a matter of days.
Stupid me thought I couldn't get a replacement so I went out and got some Sennheiser HD 580's for a little bit more. I was expecting them to be blown away by them but they were honestly just a tad better to my ears and are built MUCH better.
My opinion is that if you primarily use portable devices and want the best sound, get these. If you mainly use them on devices such as a computer, receiver etc maybe something from Sennheiser would be better for long term.
My opinion is that the triports sound like $149 headphones. They are not built like $149 headphones though. The quality is more like a $50 pair of headphones. Does this make sense to you? It's probably to keep them light. I will say though that they are some of the most comfortable headphones i've ever used! I think if BOSE eventually reduced the price to $99 they'd be a steal and would FLY off the shelves. Don't tell me these really cost that much to make!
Sennheiser sells headphones that have replacable parts and offers more expensive "upgraded" models with higher quality parts. Maybe BOSE should do the same.
And BTW these are far better than any $100 Sony or Pioneer headphones IMO. I've tried several of them.
Anyway, keep the receipt. If it wasn't for the cheap plastic these would get a 5/5 definitely!

Razer Moray In-Ear Noise Isolating Gaming Headphones--Black Review

Razer Moray In-Ear Noise Isolating Gaming Headphones--Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the Razer Moray earbuds to have another set of headphones for a new mp3 player a bought. I still have my Razer protone m100s (previous version of these headphones). I also own a set of Sony MDR EX51LP. I use these headphones for the gym when doing cardio. I find that these headphones stay in your ear the best even when you sweat. The Sony earbuds do not do this so well, they are constantly falling out and have been relegated to be used with my laptop. Another factor that makes these great for the gym (at least for me) is that the over-all top volume these headphones put out compared to the Sony earbuds or any other earbuds I have tested is great.
There is one major change to these headphones which I do not like. It seems that Razer catered to the crowd of people who whine about the earbuds having different length cords from the point that the cable splits. Both earbuds now are the same length from the point that they split the cable. This is great for people who do not were the earbuds properly (not running one cord behind your neck) but bad when wearing them as designed. It creates even more excess cord that sticks out. Also during movement intensive activities it now doesn't sit the same and seems to create a stronger pull on the earbuds making them come out easier than when they were of different length.
The actual sound quality from the headphones are more tinny compared to the M100s but still sound decent. The total cable length is longer but this doesn't seem to affect me as much as other reviewers. If you think this would bother you I would suggest to just keep the twist tie from the packaging to shorten up the extra length.
Lastly, I also want to comment as well about one of the reviews for this product. The bumping you hear when hitting the cord is something that happens with all headphones and will be more prominent on ones that create a better seal in your ear. There is nothing that can be done. I don't even notice the noise anymore.

SkullCandy (Product Out Of Date, Newer Version Available) Metallica Lowrider Artist Series Headphone w/ Death Magnetic New Album Download Review

Beautiful sound quality out of these headphones, especially at loud levels. I expected there to be some distortion when cranked over to full volume, but there is almost none. At least 5 times better sound quality than my Lowrider's that i upgraded from.
As for looks, they bring attention, but they are not over the top like some other Skullcandy headphones. The leather on this feels really nice and it has a snake skin pattern to it that you can't see in the photos. They fit on my head really well, and fit over my ears even with my industrial in, and I have a fairly large head.
i would recommend these to anyone who likes their music fast and loud, and needs headphones that can keep up with it.

Shure SRH240 Professional Quality Headphones (Black) Review

Shure SRH240 Professional Quality Headphones (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am comparing these with two other sets...
Logitech G35
Koss UR40
Shure SRH240
Notes:
The G35 allows modification of Bass and Treble levels, so I boosted them as follows: bass: +9 treble: +9.
The RealTek HD Audio headphone jack was used for the other two sets with no sound modifications.
The G35 was tested in stereo mode (surround virtualization off). Now let's begin...
Bass:
G35: 4 koss: 4.5 shure: 3.5
Clarity:
G35: 4 koss: 3.5 shure: 4.5
Brightness:
G35: 4 koss: 3 shure: 4.5
Comfort:
G35: 2.5 koss 4.5 shure 4.5
Construction:
G35: 4.5 koss: 3 shure: 4.5
Now let's run the numbers...
Value:
Logitech G35 - 19
Koss UR40 - 18.5
Shure SR240 - 21.5
With bass and treble maxed out, the G35 has enough bass to satisfy and is tighter sounding than the UR40. The cord is thick, surrounded by a woven material, and feels like it would be very difficult to damage accidentally (short of yanking on it or kicking the USB plug). The headphones themselves seem very sturdy and the adjustment band is metal. With the phones against your head, they seem to hold fast and do not feel like they might slip down. The faux leather pads are cushy but lack the width and pressure distribution of the UR40 and SRH240. Considering that the G35 applies the most pressure around the ears, this can cause comfort issues with prolonged wear. I was able to minimize the discomfort by adjusting the phones downward so that they were pressing against the ears as little as possible. As long as your ears are not terribly large, you should be able to find a reasonably comfortable position. Make sure that if you play with the Voice Morphing Preview option found in the utility program, that you disable it when done, as left on it can cause a slight humming noise. The microphone has a flexible rubber arm that folds conveniently out of the way when not needed and I found the pickup quality to be fine. The voice morph is a gimmick more than useful, unless they decide to add better morphs in an update.
The UR40 seems inherently biased toward the low end and gives the most impressive bass without modifications. Without comparing to other headphones, the sound is very acceptable. However, after listening to the G35 and SRH240, the UR40 sounds muddy in the highs and mids by comparison. I still like the sound, despite that, and it does have exceptional bass response. The deal breaker for me is the flimsy construction quality, despite a lifetime warranty. The entire thing is plastic and the joints that attach the phones to the adjustment bands look unnecessarily fragile. The cord is also on the short side and very thin. Despite appearing closed, the UR40 is vented and quite open to environmental sounds, which can be good or bad depending on what you want. The comfort mesh around the top is notorious for coming loose, thanks to being attached by flimsy little black rubber bands. If you don't mind being prepared to replace them sooner than other headphones, or plan on being careful, these deliver great lows and adequate overall sound for the price.
If you are looking for a clear, bright sound with complimentary lows, the SRH240 delivers just that. The comfort level is on par with the UR40 but the build quality far surpasses it and feels very sturdy. Unlike the G35, it is less physically oppressive and does not apply as much pressure around the ears, which I appreciate. While not as heavy as the UR40, the bass is plentiful and compliments the overall sound very well. It is also a closed back design for good isolation.
If you have access to an equalizer, such as the one found in iTunes, you can compensate for the weaknesses and enhance the strengths of each of these sets to get a great sound, as I am currently proving to myself. I could honestly pick any of these and be happy with the sound, so it's almost more a case of priorities.
update:
I have decided to go with the G35 as I really enjoy the tightness of the sound and the feature set. I decided it is worth sacrificing some long-term comfort over. I like being able to modify bass and treble at the driver level, as this gives me strong, punchy bass, plus clear highs and mids without needing to rely on a third party equalizer. I only ever plan to use these at the computer, so being restricted to USB was not much of a concern.

Reproducing full bass with detailed highs, the SRH240 is ideal for vivid listening on almost any device. The closed-back, circumaural design rests comfortably over the ears and reduces background noise. The ear cushions on the SRH240 are replaceable and a carrying pouch and threaded ¼-Inch adapter are included.

Logitech FreePulse Wireless Headphones Review

Logitech FreePulse Wireless Headphones
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
PROS:
1. Works in a nearby room or directly above/below the room with the transmitter.
2. Able to hear outside sounds, if you don't want to be completely isolated from your surroundings.
3. Nice to be able to adjust the volume by touching the shell of the right earpad, which acts as a toggle switch.
4. Comes with a short cord in case the dongle won't fit in your unit's audio jack.
CONS:
1. Sound quality is muddy. If you like rock music, you will not hear much of the cymbals or other high notes. It is fine if you listen to spoken voice. The stock earbuds with the Nano 2G are a little better than the Logitech, but with less bass. My Sony MDR-V6 closed-ear cans sound *exceptionally* good with my 2nd Gen Nano. I'll give the Logitech headphones many additional hours to break in, but I had hoped they would sound much better out of the box.
2. Headband is not adjustable and sits close to your neck. Tilting your head back, even slightly, bumps the headband. Wearing a collared shirt also causes your shirt to contact the headband. The around-the-ear part of the headband takes most of the impact. The earpads will move a little. Some collar brushing comes through to the earpads. I think exercising would not go well.
3. Comfortable on the ears for less than an hour.
4. Little if any difference in bass boost and normal.
5. Comes with 6 iPod interfaces, but the Nano interface does not work with the 2nd Gen Nano. You can still plug the dongle into the headphone jack, but without the end cap for the dongle, there is a 2mm gap.
6. It's just more than twice the width of the Nano 2G. It is also slightly offset, left-to-right when looking at the Nano + dongle from the front.
7. I generally had to try to set the connection twice before it sync'd up. Then I needed to start the player right away, because if I waited 30 seconds, it shut itself off.
I posted a couple of pictures if you click on the link at the top of the page.

V-MODA Cross-fade LP Over-Ear Headphones (Gunmetal Black) Review

V-MODA Cross-fade LP Over-Ear Headphones (Gunmetal Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I strongly urge anyone considering these headphones to go see them in person first.(like at the apple store)
I got these headphones in August after a coworker recommended them. He got his off Amazon and I got mine from the Apple store.
The speaker drivers themselves are great. Good balance of bass and treble across a wide range of music. The Crossfades seem well constructed and light. I use them only at work for about 4hrs a day and was happy for about a month. They stay on my desk when not in use and have never left the office
Unfortunately after a month I noticed the the inner plastic band where the metal adjustment bar that connects the phones to the padding the goes over your head had completely cracked on both sides of the headphones. If you look at the pictures Amazon provides, look at the 6th picture(for the gunmetal version - [...]). The cracks appeared right above the crossfade logo where the 2 screws secure the plastic housing on both sides of headphones(tops of the V). The plastic wasn't just cracked on one screw on each side, it was crack on all 4 screws. This leads me to believe that they had some over-tightening problem when putting in the screws during manufacturing. A day after I discovered the crack, one of the plastic cracked fragments actually fell off the headphones, making it impossible for the headphones to keep tension on the metal adjustment bar.
I was sad to see this issue, given I had just dropped $250 on these headphones a month earlier. So I went and had a look at my co-workers set. SAME exact problem, cracks along the plastic on both sides of the headphones in the same 4 places where the screw look to have been over-tightened. The plastic had not fallen off on his yet, but he was equally pissed off at the quality of manufacturing.
Seriously, the rest of the headphone is well constructed of metal and solid plastic.... but the one location that would get the most stress has the cheapest made component??!?!? I don't have a particularly wide head, and I've DJ'd for years and know how to take care of expensive headphones. What a shame that an otherwise great sounding set of headphones could be wrecked by a defective 50cent plastic part.
Thankfully the Apple store allowed me to return the headphones beyond the 14day regular policy. We went over to the iPod demo section in the store where they had 4 crossfades out for display to use with the iPod/iphones, and guess what!!! 3 of the 4 had the same exact issue.
I think these headphones are so new that this problem will start to become more prevalent in the next few months for folks who bought them early on. I don't think this is a hard issue to fix with a redesign of that particular part (using metal). However it's probably going to require folks to send them back to the manufacturer.
