Razer Moray In-Ear Noise Isolating Gaming Headphones--Black Review

Razer Moray In-Ear Noise Isolating Gaming Headphones--Black

I purchased the Razer Moray earbuds to have another set of headphones for a new mp3 player a bought. I still have my Razer protone m100s (previous version of these headphones). I also own a set of Sony MDR EX51LP. I use these headphones for the gym when doing cardio. I find that these headphones stay in your ear the best even when you sweat. The Sony earbuds do not do this so well, they are constantly falling out and have been relegated to be used with my laptop. Another factor that makes these great for the gym (at least for me) is that the over-all top volume these headphones put out compared to the Sony earbuds or any other earbuds I have tested is great.
There is one major change to these headphones which I do not like. It seems that Razer catered to the crowd of people who whine about the earbuds having different length cords from the point that the cable splits. Both earbuds now are the same length from the point that they split the cable. This is great for people who do not were the earbuds properly (not running one cord behind your neck) but bad when wearing them as designed. It creates even more excess cord that sticks out. Also during movement intensive activities it now doesn't sit the same and seems to create a stronger pull on the earbuds making them come out easier than when they were of different length.
The actual sound quality from the headphones are more tinny compared to the M100s but still sound decent. The total cable length is longer but this doesn't seem to affect me as much as other reviewers. If you think this would bother you I would suggest to just keep the twist tie from the packaging to shorten up the extra length.
Lastly, I also want to comment as well about one of the reviews for this product. The bumping you hear when hitting the cord is something that happens with all headphones and will be more prominent on ones that create a better seal in your ear. There is nothing that can be done. I don't even notice the noise anymore.

Razer Carcharias Gaming Headset (Black) Review

Razer Carcharias Gaming Headset (Black)

I must admit I was a bit put off by the price of this gaming headset and the lack of features. Other PC headsets such as the Logitech G35 and Senn's PC350 were priced more but came with more features and of course, a bigger brand name. But when it comes down to gaming and listening to music, you aren't really asking for a lot. The Razer Carcharias delivers what one would need to enjoy listening to music, and of course, long comfortable gaming sessions.
Out of the box, the Carcharias seems pretty normal, perhaps even a bit cheaply made. Padding is placed in appropriate places, including the headband and loudspeakers. The padding is exceptionally soft, especially around the loudspeakers where the material is felt-like. The thin plastic that covers part of the headphones may seem flimsy, but is very light. A nice mesh around the headphones is also present, and also takes away a bit of weight. A nice part of the construction is the wire that connects the speakers to the headband. It is not only quite sturdy, but also gives some range of motion without compromising that integrity. Speaking of wires, the cable for the headset itself is very lengthy (nine feet) and is braided in fiber. The mic is sturdy itself and can be turned 270 degrees. It is also bendable at the midsection to some degree.
No sense praising the construction if it isn't even comfortable, and this is the part where the Carcharias excels at. Placing these headphones on for the first time felt amazing, as if it was conforming to the shape of my head. Of course, I felt this way about many headphones at first, so naturally I decided to start up a few games (which easily lasted several hours), after which I listened to a few hours of music while studying. There was absolutely no discomfort at all after all that time. The lightweight construction and circumaural design is a real blessing to the ears. The headphones themselves are also very easy to adjust.
The audio quality for these headphones is quite exceptional, enough to justify wearing these headphones for hours. As probably mentioned, audiophiles may want to look elsewhere, but for the casual listener, the quality is more than good enough. Although the bass is quite deep ("boomy"), it does not overwhelm the treble. The highs for this headphones can be quite distinct (ie loud), and since the volume can go quite high on this thing, may be overwhelming sometimes. Much of this is perfectly suited to games, especially first-person shooters. Keep in mind that this headset does not provide surround sound, and never was intended to. You can take a look at the aforementioned models for that.
The noise-filtering mic for this headset works well. I tested it with Ventrilo, Skype, and Left 4 Dead, and others could hear me very well, with a noticeable lack of background noise from my side. I should note that I had the mic at its default positioning (no additional bending). It can be adjusted to be a bit closer or further.
Overall, the Razer Carcharias does its job as a gaming headset very well. I consider it Razer's best headset in terms of price vs performance; a step above the Mako, and better than the Barracuda and Megalodon. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys long gaming sessions and listening to music. The comfort along with its exceptional audio quality and mic justifies the pricing; just don't expect any extra features.
Side note: I also think the name for this headset is awesome. As someone who's interested in cartilaginous fishes, I don't think they could have picked a better name.

Razer Orca Gaming and Music Headphones Review

Razer Orca Gaming and Music Headphones
Average Reviews:

I researched this pair of headphones for a while before I bought them through the Razer store. I needed a decent pair of headphones for music and gaming to replace my busted Bose Triports. So let me break down my review -
Comfort - These headphones really do feel nice. The cloth ear cups are a nice for a few hours of music or gaming, but become pretty itchy after that. They have great breathability, something that my Triports lacked badly. Overall, these are great feeling headphones that won't make your ears all sweaty and gross.
Durability - These headphones are made of plastic, so don't expect to be able to throw them against the ground after you get killed in MW2. I personally don't take them anywhere outside my condo, so I don't really need to worry about breaking them while listening to my iPod on the street. Overall, these aren't a pair of headphones that can take a lot of damage.
Sound Quality - I was very surprised about the sound quality of these headphones. My Bose Triports had amazing bass and mids, both of which were comparable to the Orcas. The sounds in games are very well produced. I play MW2 on my PS3 and I can hear where people are coming from know where to cut them off. Overall I was very happy with the audio capabilities.
Noise cancellation - Very poor noise reduction. I was listening to music on my computer while the TV set was on. Needless to say, my song didn't mix too well with Maury saying "You are the father." The TV doesn't have to be loud to throw off the sound and ambiance of the music or game, so I would recommend turning off all other distractions before gaming it up.
Appearance - You see how bright they are in the picture? Well they are even brighter in person. I personally like the look, but I can see how more conservative people would stray away from the neon lime look. The two ear cup adjusters are pretty tacky looking on the sides, but not too big of a deal there.
Overall: I would get these headphones if you are interested in a good pair for music and computer games. I would stay away from them if you listen to your iPod in the city (unless you want to hear police sirens mixing with Lady Gaga) or dislike the look of lime green. I give them a 4/5 as a replacement to my Bose Triports.
