Plantronics T10 Corded Headset Phone Review

Plantronics T10 Corded Headset Phone

If people love cats or hate them, the T10 headset phone is no different. So many reviews were critical, I hesitated to even try one. But I'm glad I ordered a T10, and it's a keeper. Instead of giving the phone a good workout for several months, I'll review it now so as to report my initial experiences and address the complaints.

The Headset Cord is over 6 ft. long, a plus. It plugs into the Headset Jack on the base. (The Oct 17, 2002, review stating that it's only 3 ft. long is outdated, and is alarmingly misleading.)

My unit does not make humming noises while in use, as some reported experiencing. This was a major concern, prior to purchase. (I have a DSL Internet connection for my computer, so I did need to plug the Line Cord into a DSL adapter, which plugs into the wall phone jack.)
The complaints about the Mute and On/Off buttons on the base being too close together? Yes, they are close. But they're also big, and they're labeled. The Mute button is 1? in. wide, and On/Off is 1? in. wide. Either button may be selected with ease, unless you're Bigfoot!
About the base's instability when you tap numbers in the top row. That did happen--but only when I placed the phone was way back on the table, and had to reach. I was dialing from a much lower angle than usual.
When the phone is closer, its natural to tap the numbers from a higher angle, and the unit remains adequately stable. That said, I would prefer that the unit's top surface was closer to parallel with its bottom, and not so high-angled. This may also present a lighting problem. If you happen to have a table lamp behind the base, as I do, it makes a shadow on the numbers--which are in their buttons' depressed tops.
I prefer using the headset, which feels light and comfortable. My head is fairly large, but the very expandable headband took care of that. I didn't need to bend the metal portion of the headband, as suggested, to make it any wider.
Adjusting Volume made incoming speech loud enough (and having a Tone control is a nice touch). But then my own voice was too loud in my ear. So I moved the Voice Boom tip two inches further away from my mouth (and may have spoken a little more softly without realizing it). The other person could still heard me loudly enough. And incoming and outgoing loudness were balanced for my ear! Perfecto!
I plan to use the T10 for any calls expected to last over 10 minutes. Especially, for tech phone help calls. Shades of that awful 4 hour call to India last year! My game plan is:

1) Make the call on the nearby cordless speakerphone.
2) Hands free, talk into the speaker to make menu choices.
3) Listen to the speaker while resuming work, and wait, wait, wait, for up to 30 minutes!
4) When a live person finally answers, ask them to wait a moment.
5) Press the speakerphone Hold button, slip the headset onto my head, and press the T10 On button. "Can you hear me now? Good!"

Wireless Bluetooth Skype Headphone By Ambicom Review

Wireless Bluetooth Skype Headphone By Ambicom

If the manufacturer wants to sell this product then they should fix the driver software that runs it. Each time I stick the bluetooth dongle in my usb port it completely rediscovers and re-installs the software. After that you need a reboot or log off and back on to get it to work. Then it works with some things but not others. For instance, it works great for walking around the house listening to music or videos. But when you log onto yahoo messenger is just stops working and the sound and speaker built into my notebook take over when the drivers for the headset abort without warning. For music the sound is not that high quality. So I don't recommend getting them for that only. Its yet another hardware vendor with screwed up drivers and they don't update them to fix them. Or maybe thats impossible. Shame on them for not updating the drivers for stability. So sad but that problem appears to be an industry trend. UPDATE after laying on the charger unused for 9 months i tried again and they finally fixed the drivers. Had to pay an IT guy $80 service call so had him take a look at while he was fixing something else. he spent almost 1 hour fighting it but now they work great. meanwhile i bought some others from sony and they worked immediately and fine. stay away from this brand.

SONY SPORT OVER EAR EARBUDS Review

SONY SPORT OVER EAR EARBUDS
Average Reviews:

Great phones for the first couple weeks. Sound great. VERY comfortable. I can not stand the basic earbud style phones but these are great to wear. HOWEVER, after a relatively short time they will simply fade to minimal sound. Two different sets. Same issue. It's not coincedence. There is a design/quality issue here. I sent the first set back to Sony and have not heard back. Buy something else. I know I will. Sony duped me twice already.

Etymotic Research ER6i Isolator In-Ear Earphones (Black) Review

Etymotic Research ER6i Isolator In-Ear Earphones (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The white wires suggest Etymotic Research wants a bigger piece of the iPod upgrade market. But rather than simply giving the black-wired ER-6 a cosmetic makeover, they designed the ER-6i from the ground up to work around portables' puny output. Thus, they offer higher sensitivity (more sound for a given volume setting) and boosted bass response.
But despite their light weight and sporty appearance, these phones are optimized for home listening, commuting, and plane trips; applications where sound isolation is a benefit, not a hazard. Compare them, therefore, to active noise-canceling headphones, not conventional earbuds.
FIT & COMFORT
Because these phones go in your ear canal and require an airtight seal, proper fit is essential. Without it, you will get no bass at all. None. I prefer the disposable foam ear tips to the 3-flange ones (both kinds are included). Your results may vary.
Here's the trick: After you compress the foam and insert them in your ears, it takes several seconds for the foam to expand. Focus on available background noise. When the sound drops suddenly over a second or two, you know a seal has been formed. Conversely, with music playing, you should notice the sound suddenly fill out, first in one ear and then the next.
The foam ear tips may feel uncomfortable for 2-3 minutes, but you quickly get used to them. This naturally depends on ear geometry and other factors, but be aware that you wouldn't buy these phones on comfort alone.
SOUND DAMPING
Properly inserted, the foam ear tips provide 34-36 dB noise reduction (the triple flanged ear tips are a few decibels less effective). To put this in perspective, this is even better than the 29-31 dB NRR (Noise Reduction Rating) provided by better-quality shooting ear muffs. They also quiet more than active noise canceling headphones (which feature feedback circuitry that noticeably degrades the sound).
With this level of damping, you may be aware that a TV is on in the same room, but just barely. You will also save your hearing because you won't feel the need to turn up the volume to drown out environmental noise.
The downside of this isolation is that you will miss doorbells, telephones, etc. Common sense argues strongly against using these jogging, bicycling, or even walking around city streets. You're giving up a sense entirely. The "look out, you idiot" you don't hear could be the "look out, you idiot" you absolutely, positively needed to hear.
SOUND QUALITY
Putting these phones through their paces with music I'm familiar with, the first thing that stood out was their neutral-to-bright balance. These are slightly more "forward" sounding than the more "laid back" or "polite" German headphones you might think of.
The second thing I noticed was that they get the midrange right. Without the response peaks, valleys or ripples that so often mar the critical 1,000 Hz. region, you will hear singers sound more "present" than with the vast majority of headphones (and most audiophile speakers for that matter).
If you are a bass junkie, you will find the bass lean. This is difficult to say, but it's not the headphones. It's you. You are addicted to heavy one-note bass (it's an epidemic - note how rental cars always have the bass at +10). Go cold turkey and listen with these for a week, however, and you will discover that there are actually, ahem, different bass notes.
As for treble, there are conventional open headphones (usually more expensive) with more "air" at the top end, but the ER-6i's treble extension is as good as sound-isolating headphones go - certainly better than the Bose. There's a minor response notch at 7 kHz, but nothing I really noticed.
BTW, don't be alarmed by their funny-looking frequency response curve. Remember, because they're in your ear, they are voiced to compensate for the missing frequency shaping ordinarily provided by your outer ear.
The sound damping has another beneficial effect: You will hear things in familiar recordings you have never heard before, even with high quality open headphones. Not just fingers over guitar strings, but sounds way, way down in the mix.
DESIGN & BUILD
These fingernail-sized phones are white with transparent side panels that reveal wires and the metal flanks of their balanced armature transducers. There is a small port topside, presumably for audio tuning, but perhaps also to reduce negative pressure caused by yanking the phones out (not a good idea - always remove them slowly). The front-facing side has the model number with a red dot separating the ER and 6i. The backs feature an oversized L and R, just like your first pair of sneakers.
The wires are lightweight, which is a more important factor on canal phones than with ear buds that allow the outer ear to bear the weight. The cord is a bit longer than some joggers might like, but then again, you shouldn't be using these jogging. The 1/8" headphone jack termination is gold-plated for long-term corrosion-resistance.
The removable shirt clip (included) should be used when practicable to avoid the sudden pressure on your eardrums that might result from yanking them out.
CONCLUSION
The ER-6i offers exceptionally involving, neutral sound for the money, with accurate bass and a commendably smooth midrange. I am also not aware of any headphones that provide better isolation from environmental noise. Recommended.

Sennheiser HD25SP Over-Ear High-Efficiency Headphone Review

Sennheiser HD25SP Over-Ear High-Efficiency Headphone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
To begin, I've been an audiophile since I was of a very young age. My father always had some of the best, expensive, and accurate equipment money could buy. I've always had a fine taste for things that sounded great... Especially for analog audio... and to be concise these headphones do not disappoint.
Unboxing these headphones is very straightforward. Not much documentation, but the basics are all there. The wire is uncoiled and seems to be coated in a high quality non-gloss finish with a strip of shrink wrap adhesive at the top to prevent splitting. Each channel splits to its individual side phone, rather than entering one side and leaving the guts to house the sound distribution wiring. The adjustment and swivel features are so brilliant they must be mentioned. The headband is one solid piece, with notches at each end and a dense foam pad at the top for comfort. Each phone has a tensioned wheel that locks into each notch on the band, so that instead of the cheap "plastic on plastic" slide that you get from other headphones, there's a consistent method of adjustment that does not promote wear and tear. Once again pointing attention at the ear phones, they swivel on this notch in complete 360 degree freedom. NO OTHER COMPANY HAS THIS. This means there are no seams, swivels or arms to be broken.
On to the thing that truly matters... the sound quality. I always test my audio with three types of music. Mainly Drum and Bass (for its long sustained notes in the low frequency, notably tracks by Noisia), Hip Hop (for its hard and quick hits of bass with periodical low frequency involvement, notably Outkast's - Spotieotiedopalicious being one of the mainstays) and finally a Best of Arcangelo Corelli cd (cello's and violins together provide a nice insight into the mids and highs). The overall sound appears to be tight, close, and very accurate. Highs sound razor sharp but not piercing, while mids an lows gently curl together leaving you floating. After several hours of breaking in the bass especially started to sound warmer and even more pleasing. I would definitely recommend running several hours of pink noise through these to break them in (wav files to run in a playlist can be found all over the net). What really blows me away is how easy it is to pick out poor quality mp3s and other recordings. Prepare to instantly delete anything under 256kbs within your music collection because you will probably notice. Ive tested many headphones and these standout as one of the few sets that scream SOLID BUY.
I sencerely hope you consider these for listening to your music. They are rugged, and sound phenomenal among all the cheaply outsourced pish-posh out there. Give them a listen I promise your ears will give you a big hug.

EX25 Extreme Isolation Headphones Review

EX25 Extreme Isolation Headphones

Headband is very tight, I had to wear it angled forward for comfort. Audiophiles may be dissapointed by the sound quality but I would rate it above average. My old Panasonic RP-HT240 had better sound quality but it's headphone cup cushion material was flimsy (disintegrating within 5 yrs) whereas these EX-25 headphone cups are high quality, functional & durable. This does not use sound circuitry which I considere a plus since those electronic gimicks add a bit of white noise. You must be cautious about wire connection at the headphone cups since it's not a very sturdy connection. Long cable length. Airplane headset adapter jack not included.
