Apple Earbuds (White with Gray Earbuds) Review

Apple Earbuds (White with Gray Earbuds)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
(EDIT: While I stand by my five-star rating of these headphones and still love them, they are NOT good for use while exercising. Energetic jostling like that will probably dislodge them, and if not, the subtle feedback from the cable bouncing around will affect the quality of the sound. If your intent is to find something for the gym or running, I'd advise you to look elsewhere. I use the standard earbuds that came with the iPod for exercise.)
First off... let's address those one-star reviews: you folks either haven't inserted them properly, have irregularly shaped ear canals, or got a faulty product. Let me be clear: THESE HEADPHONES ARE AMAZING.
My old pair had been damaged and I needed a replacement set. After reading through the reviews, I was compelled to give these new headphones a try. Especially helpful was Steve from NJ's description of how to fit them correctly. So I took his advice and gently tugged up on the top of my ear with one hand while inserting the phone with the other (very much like putting in earplugs) and... was blown away. The sound quality just doesn't compare. They're better than the originals that came with the iPod. They're better than the Grundigs I was using as a temporary replacement. They're as good or better than over-the-ear models I've used. I fell in love with my iPod all over again.
Reasons to buy:
1. The sound quality (when worn correctly) is fantastic. I'm noticing bass and subtle highs that I missed with the old phones.
2. The headphones are very comfortable. The soft plastic is really easy on the ears and I've worn mine for over an hour so far. (One caveat: if you don't like wearing earplugs, DON'T BUY THEM. But why are you even reading this review if you don't want an in-ear product?) Which leads me to...
3. They act as great sound reduction. They're basically earplugs, so they significantly cut down on ambient noise. They help cut down the racket on the train when I'm commuting to and from work. Adds to the quality of music as well as peace of mind.
4. They (might) protect your ears. Because there isn't as much noise to compete with, you can turn down the volume and still get better sound quality. That means you're exposing your ear to less volume over the long run.
5. They (might) save battery time. Less volume = less energy output.
These last two items I say "might" because I have no way of proving them, but they seem so common sense, I'm including them anyway.
Reasons not to buy:
1. You don't like earplugs/in-ear headphones. 'Nuff said.
2. You have irregularly shaped ear canals. Not sure what percentage of the population you're in, but try a friend's pair if you're wondering.
3. You don't like the price tag. Can't help you there... the modest investment was totally worth every penny to me.
(EDIT: 4. You need headphones for when you exercise. I don't think any in-ear design will stand up to vigorous motion but your mileage may vary.)
So there's my $.02. If you're still undecided, go ahead and buy them. Be sure to wear them properly. Aside from a bit of cash, what have you got to lose? If you hate them, well... at least you can write a review here on Amazon and share your opinion with the rest of us. And if you don't hate them, come on back and post a 5-star review like this one to even the odds!!

Apple Remote and Earbuds for iPod (White) Review

Apple Remote and Earbuds for iPod (White)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got an iPod 20 for christmas last year and have been using it with the iBuds and remote. At first I thought "wow, this is great!" The remote is useful and the iBuds are better than anything from sony for less that $50. However I soon identified a specific list of problems with these. Let me tell you them:
1. The remote cable is way too long. At about 3 feet I was having problems keeping the remote cable and iBud cables tucked away so they'd be useful, and I (at 6 feet) am not exactly short on height in which to use up the cable length.
2. The iBuds have no bass. As a test of headphones I always listen to Seven Nation Army (White Stripes) or Are You Gonna Be My Girl (JET), since they both have heavy treble and very subtle bass. With the iBuds the treble and mid range came over clearly as I could want (I now know why Steve Jobs is half deaf), but the bass is completely inaudible.
3. The remote is very fragile. After about 3 months of intermittent use, my remote cable has somehow broken so that you only get audio in one ear unless you lay with the iPod suspended above your head. It's the oddest failiure I've ever had in headphones, and a bit dissapointing.
Overall I still like the iBuds, but i'm planning on upgrading to the in-ear model. I just wish they made a good, durable remote.

Listening to your iPod on the go is even more convenient with this wired remote and high-quality earphones set. Compatible with all iPod models except iPod with video, iPod nano and iPod shuffle. The earbud-style headphones rely on Neodymium transducers, a rare earth magnet that significantly enhances frequency response and overall sound quality - in fact, five times as powerful as other headphones that use aluminum, cobalt, or ceramic drivers. The wired remote lets you fast forward, rewind, play/pause, and control the volume with four simple buttons. The Hold switch allows you to lock your iPod remote so buttons can't be pressed accidentally. Clip the remote to your lapel, shirt, or collar for easy access.

Apple iPod shuffle 4 GB Black (3rd Generation) OLD MODEL Review

Apple iPod shuffle 4 GB Black (3rd Generation) OLD MODEL
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
OK, I'll begin by saying that the new Shuffle is, without doubt, one of the smallest, sexiest MP3 players I've ever seen. I love how it looks. It's... compelling. Of course, with this level of form, some functionality is lost. With the 3G Shuffle, it's the buttons (or lack thereof).
Apple decided to move the buttons off the controller and onto the headphone cord. There are two major flaws that I can see:
1. I can't use "any old" pair of headphones anymore. Sure, the music still plays, but if I can't pause, skip, turn the volume up/down, what's the point. I'm now tied into either Apple's headphones or third-party headphones with the controller. Gone are the days of a "headphone catastrophe" where the headphone cord gets pinched while traveling and I have to run out to a store and grab a pair of substitute $10 phones. I now have to either shell out $20-30 and/or find a local Apple store. Not good. (And let's not even talk about using it with my car stereo...)
2. The controls are... in a bad place. It's kind of hard to grab the controller without looking when it's bouncing around near my jaw while running. Today, it took me about 5-6s to actually get a hold of the darned thing and skip ahead. Later in the day, I grabbed it a bit quicker but then accidentally yanked the earbud out. This was obviously designed without testing it "in the field."
To both of the above, some comment: "wait until Apple releases an adapter with controls in a better position that allow you to use normal headphones." Of course, my reply is "I already spent $80 on this thing. You want me to spend MORE?"
In the end, this is one sweet of technology that just screams "impress your friends." Of course, you don't hear it whispering "and secretly dread using me anywhere but in your living room chair."
At least Apple's not discontinuing the 2G Shuffle...

The third-generation iPod shuffle is the talk of the music world. Not just because it's incredibly small--half the size of the previous generation. And not just because it holds up to 1,000 songs and supports multiple playlists. It's the talk of the town because it's the only music player in the world that talks to you. The new VoiceOver feature lets iPod shuffle tell you what song is playing and who's performing it. It also tells you the names of your playlists. With VoiceOver--and with the controls conveniently located on the earbud cord--it's even easier to navigate your music. You can do it without taking your eyes off your run, your ride, or whatever you're doing.

The iPod shuffle 3G: The First Music Player That Talks to You

World's Smallest Music Player

Ultra-Compact, Ultra-Sleek Its compact, anodized aluminum design is nearly half the size of the previous iPod shuffle and smaller than a AA battery. But don't be fooled by its diminutive nature. It might be small on the outside, but it holds a lot on the inside. With iPod shuffle now available in 4 GB capacity, you can take up to 1,000 songs with you anywhere. And with the controls located where you can quickly access them, it's also easier to use.

Most Wearable The iPod shuffle comes with a brilliant stainless steel clip that lets you securely wear your music no matter where you are. Clip it to your workout gear when you're at the gym. Clip it to your backpack or belt when you're on the go. If you want, you can even clip it out of sight. Whether you're walking, running, cycling, or skiing, you'll always have your favorite songs and playlists with you.

Your Music Library to Go

Store More Music It's hard to believe that something so small could carry so much music. But now that the iPod shuffle has 4 GB, you have plenty of room to store up to 1,000 songs. Load up all the music you want, and hit the road for as long as you like. Slide the switch to "Shuffle," and get ready for the most unpredictable ride of your life. Or slide the switch to "Play in Order" to hear your playlists from start to finish.

Multiple Playlists You've probably made multiple playlists in iTunes. You have one for your commute, another one for the gym, and then a few more for just chilling out. Now, with the iPod shuffle 3G, you can sync them all and take them wherever you go. Up to 4 GB gives you plenty of room to hold a playlist for every occasion--which means you'll always have the perfect mix to match your activity or mood. And with VoiceOver telling you the name of each playlist, you can easily switch between them and find the one you want. You also can have audiobooks and podcasts on your iPod shuffle. Audiobooks will be put into separate playlists automatically, and podcast episodes will be grouped together in a Podcasts playlist.

Easy Access Controls You'll find controls for the new iPod shuffle in two locations. On the right earbud cord, you'll find the controls that let you interact with your music. And on the top of the iPod shuffle, there's a switch that lets you choose to shuffle, to play your songs in order, or to turn off your iPod shuffle.

Using the Apple Earphones with Remote All the controls you need to interact with your music--adjusting volume, changing songs, switching playlists, and hearing song titles and artist names--are built into the Apple Earphones with Remote. You control the iPod shuffle by pressing the top, center, or bottom button on the control. This makes it easy to navigate your music and activate the VoiceOver feature, without taking your eyes off what you're doing.

Three-Way Switch The new iPod shuffle now has a stainless steel switch with three positions that let you choose how you want to listen to your music. Slide it to the left to shuffle your songs. Slide it to the middle to play your songs in order. Or slide it to the right to turn everything off.

Also, an LED on the top of the iPod shuffle displays such things as syncing and battery status.

Introducing VoiceOver VoiceOver is the exciting new feature that makes iPod shuffle the first music player that talks to you. It entirely changes the way you browse and navigate your music. Say you're listening to a song and want to know the title or the artist. With the press of a button, VoiceOver tells you--without interrupting your music. But the fun doesn't stop with songs. For the first time ever on an iPod shuffle, you can have multiple playlists, and VoiceOver announces their names, too. So you can easily find the right mix without taking your eyes off your run, your ride, or whatever you're doing.

How It Works A lot of work has gone into creating an iPod shuffle that not only talks, but says the right things. It all begins with iTunes and its seamless integration with iPod. iTunes reads your song information, then uses the new VoiceOver Kit to generate the announcements for the songs, artists, and playlists on your iPod shuffle. You'll hear different voices depending on what type of computer system you use when you sync your iPod shuffle. If you sync it with a PC or with a Mac running Mac OS X Tiger, you'll hear the English voice included in the VoiceOver Kit. And since Mac OS X Leopard already has an amazing English voice built in, that's the one you'll hear when you sync your iPod shuffle with a Mac running Leopard.

Multiple Languages Your music library may have songs from all over the world--a love song from France, a bolero from Spain, a pop tune from Japan. Luckily, VoiceOver speaks in 14 languages. iTunes automatically selects the language and best voice for your song titles and artist names. It looks at song data, like the title, artist, and album information, then applies intelligent algorithms to choose the right language. For example, iTunes recognizes the song "Ya Viene el Sol" by Ozomatli as a Spanish song, so your iPod shuffle will automatically speak that song title and artist name in Spanish. If you'd prefer to hear song titles and artist names spoken in a specific language, you can change the designated VoiceOver language in iTunes. Just select one or more songs, choose Get Info from the File menu, and then select the VoiceOver language in the Options pane.

VoiceOver Kit The first time you set up VoiceOver on your computer, iTunes automatically downloads and installs the VoiceOver Kit, which enables your iPod shuffle to speak in 14 different languages:

The sound is pretty good and the ear buds fit well. (I have small ears and have trouble with others). BUT....I bought these in Feb. and already the cover that fits in your ear has torn on the right earbud and now won't stay on at all. Also the cord seems to tangle easily. Good idea but doesn't hold up to real use.

Apple In-ear Headphones with Remote and Mic Review

Apple In-ear Headphones with Remote and Mic
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am a long time audiophile and dedicated headphone/earphone buff. I currently own the top line `phones from most of the major manufacturers including Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic, Sony, Etymotic, AKG, AT, etc. I state this only in an effort to establish my bona fides and not to put down the views any other reviewer. This said, let me state unequivocally that I consider these earphones to be an excellent value. Contrary to the previous review, the bass response is both plentiful and very well balanced. However, as with all in-ear-monitors, the seal between the silicone tip and the ear canal is all important. No seal, no bass--it's that simple. These shouldn't be confused with Apple's other, cheaper in-ear model. These are dual driver earphones and offer considerably higher fidelity than most single driver designs. Despite being much cheaper than most other maker's dual driver models, they are the equal of earphones costing twice as much or more. To compare them to iPod earbuds is absolutely ludicrous. Very highly recommended.

SteelSeries 5H V2 USB Gaming Headset with Virtual Surround 7.1 Sound (Black) Review

SteelSeries 5H V2 USB Gaming Headset with Virtual Surround 7.1 Sound (Black)
Average Reviews:

Let me start off by saying, for gaming i don't think there is a better headset out there. The virtual 7.1 works flawlessly and the mic on this thing is crystal clear. Its relatively comfortable, although I start to sweat around my ears around the 1 hour mark. Also if you are considered one with a small head, i might go try it on first. I have what you call a large head with some hair and i have this thing cranked all the way down. Works for me but not so sure about others.
Music - Very mediocre. i know it is optimized for GAMING but i still feel it fell short in this department. don't expect to be blown away or even satisfied if you want to listen to music a lot on headphones.
All in all its a solid headset, and is well worth the money if you are into gaming.
UPDATE:so it has been 4 days and the right side of the headphones has stopped working. i am very surprised/annoyed because i handled these things like a baby and still went out on me. i thought it was something funky with vista so i turned on the "flip sound" so the left side plays on the right and visa versa and no sound still. plugged it into a friends computer and same thing. not very happy that i spent $100 on these and they fail within such a short amount of time.

I love these headphones! I have loved each of the six -- yes, six!! -- pair I've had. I love them so much that every time they quit working, I go back for more.
As a previous reviewer noted, sweat seems to ruin these headphones -- easily. I use them on the treadmill, and each pair has lasted somewhere between six weeks and six months.
If you're buying these for non-workout purposes, I very highly recommend them. If you plan on doing some sweating, either go ahead and buy several pair or keep shopping.

Combining Philips' audio expertise with Nike's athlete-focused ingenuity, these lightweight sport headphones are an ideal fit for runners, skaters, and other active users. The phones are specifically built for movement, with an unobtrusive behind-the-head design that feels comfortable even during strenuous activity, along with a pair of soft, sweat-resistant earpieces that sit securely in the ear at all times. In addition, the 3.9-foot cable drapes in the rear rather than the front, so no matter how often you swing your arms or swivel your head, the cord stays out of your way. Of course, the best design in the world means nothing if your music sounds flat, which is why Nike included a pair of 15 mm neodymium drivers with a strikingly deep bass response of 10 Hz. The drivers create a rich, precise soundscape that impresses even in the midst of noisy traffic and talkative pedestrians. Additional features include an oxygen-free copper cord and a 3.5 mm chrome connection, both of which ensure a high-quality signal transfer.

Nike HJ020 Flight Sport headphones Review

These headphones:
- do no fall out of your ears while you are running
- have decent sound while exercising
- do not close out all other sounds so still can hear cars, etc
- are lightweight
- cord comes out of neckband which is good if you clip iPod on back of shorts like me
- took a little getting use to at first because they do not seem secure, but they are, they have never come out of place
- the rubber gasket over the earbud came off about 6 months later, I bought 2 replacement pair in case it happened again or they discontinued this style
I have tried all the Sony earbuds, Philips, and some other in my headphone graveyard in my drawer. A lot of wasted money.
They work great for me. I use them excusively for running. Its the best solution I have found. I wear other types for other activities and would not use them for listening to my iPod leisurely.

I hate that the normal iPod earbuds always fall-out while I'm doing any kind of moderate physical activity. After exploring my options with wrap around head phones, sound isolating ear phones (the kind that "plug" your ear canal), I can honestly say I was impressed that these seem to work the best for me. They clip right onto the back of your earbuds and they work like a charm. In bike rides, I have only ever had to adjust them due to my hand snagging the cord on its way to the water bottle than due to any jostling. In a half hour jog, they stay the course without fail, and just seem to work.
I do think you want to leave them on all the earbuds all the time. If you keep clipping them on and off, I can see you potentially running into trouble with the clip's ability to grip the speaker.

We were very disapointed when we received these to find out that the were just a cheap imitation of the real ipod headphones, even though the picture shown is of the real thing. Don't buy these!!!

Headset Buddy: 2.5mm Phone Headset to 3.5mm Adapter - Convert 2.5mm Headset to 3.5mm iPhone, Blackberry, Palm Review

Headset Buddy: 2.5mm Phone Headset to 3.5mm Adapter - Convert 2.5mm Headset to 3.5mm iPhone, Blackberry, Palm

I purchased this Headset Buddy Adapter for my Motorola Droid. I already had a wired headset (one-ear) that I love, but it was a 2.5mm. This adapter lets me use the headset that I already own and prefer. I especially like the fact that the adapter consists of the 3.5mm jack, then some cable and then the adapter, which makes the whole assembly seem more natural. I would definitely recommend this for anyone one needing to convert a 2.5mm headset to a 3.5mm.
