Sennheiser OMX 680 In-Ear Sports Earclip Headphone with Volume Control and Adjustable Earclips Review

I bought these Headphones for running and had very high expectations. When I first got them out of the box I was impressed with what I saw, however this didn't last long. When i first wore them I found they just would't stay on, once I bent the ear hooks to suit my ears they did manage to stay there but didn't take long to work their way out again whilst on the run. This does prove to take a bit of mastering to get right but is achievable in the end. When worn on my longer runs I found my ears to be quite sore and painful when taking the headphones off. The sound quality is OK, it's crisp and very clear but there is no bass whatsoever and quite painful to listen to at the top end. Ears ringing is never a good sign. Yes they are water and sweat resistant but once they do get wet this effects the sound quality quite dramatically and takes about two days to get back to normal again. Bit of a bummer if you run every day. I wouldn't recommend these headphones for comfort and sound quality reasons however the volume control proved to be very handy.

Sennheiser CX 680 Sports Earbuds with Volume Control and Earfin Holding System Review

Sennheiser CX 680 Sports Earbuds with Volume Control and Earfin Holding System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been on a quest for a new pair of earphones for weeks. I have spent countless hours reading hundreds of reviews on various models. My main criteria (in order of importance) were: 1) Don't fall out when doing strenuous exercise like running, 2) Won't cease functioning or experience a decrease in functionality due to sweating (I sweat profusely when exercising, e.g., my clothes are normally drenched after an hour of cardio), 3) Comfort, 4) Price, 5) Sound quality, and 6) Appearance/Style.
Based on all that I read, I decided that the new Adidas-branded Sports line from Sennheiser might be the best option for me, so I splurged, got the CX680 at a big box store, and decided to test them since I knew I could return them for a full refund within 30 days if not satisfied. If I liked them I knew I could purchase online for 25-30% less. Note that I prefer the in-ear design, but was also considering the neckband design of the PMX680 as an alternate. However, I was hoping to find one pair that I could use for cardio, weightlifting, leisure, and travel.
First, I will explain what comes in the package. You get:
(1) SYMMETRICAL earphones with a 30" cord and a straight jack
(2) a 24" extender with a volume control on one end and an "L" jack on the other
(3) a Velcro carrying pouch
(4) 3 sets (S,M,L) of earfins, 1 set of M covers w/o fins, and 3 sets (S,M,L) of earbud covers
(5) a clip
(6) a cleaning tool
My assessment of each of these components:
(1) Short Cord: Used w/o the extender, the earphones are best worn using an armband (either arm is fine due to the symmetrical cord) with the cord clipped to the shirt on whatever side the armband is to reduce tension on the opposite side earbud. I ran for 1.5 hours last night with the cord clipped this way to the collar of a T-shirt. It stayed in place the entire time and was completely unobtrusive.
(2) Extender: The volume control is very light and can be clipped to the band of your shorts w/o adding noticeable weight. With my iPod Nano clipped to one side, the volume control on the other, and the cord beneath my shirt, there was some cord slack (I'm 5'8"), but the movement was not excessive and not disruptive. The wheel of the volume control has a slight resistance to it so that you won't mistakenly blast out your eardrums while adjusting it.
(3) Pouch: The pouch is good quality and roomy enough to hold the earbuds and a small music player. However, the cords do tend to become entangled easily.
(4) Earbuds/Earfins: With some trial and error I was able to find the right combination of fin and earbud that fit comfortably and didn't fall out with movement or sweat. I've had more difficulty finding the correct fit for my L ear, but even during a 1.5 hour run I only had to adjust the bud once b/c the fin had moved (Note that the earbud itself was still firmly sealed).
(5) Clip: As mentioned above, the clip work great when attached to a collar and probably would also with a hem. I tried to use it in the middle of my shirt and it simply fell off. There's a groove on the top that seemingly is supposed to hold the wire but it does not; you simply have to clip the wire along with the clothing.
(6) I have yet to use the cleaning tool.
Now on to how the CX680 ranks using my criteria.
(1) Fit & Staying Power, 5/5: These things stay put. I've had the stock earbuds which do not fit my ears well, fall out with movement or sweat, and sound crappy. I would imagine that most people should be able to find an earfin/earbud combination that fits them well. I like that this product is customizable rather than one-size-fits-all.
(2) Sweat Resistance, 5/5: More than any other pair of earbuds I've owned, these seem to be unaffected by sweating. They do not loosen when sweat is in the ears and their rubberized materials seem especially sweat "proof". I have not yet tried to put them in water. I would hope that these do not as easily succumb to the issues common with other earphones that seem less sturdy/durable. Even if they do fail at some point, at least with Sennheiser you have their 2 year warranty (another reason I chose these over something with only a 90 day warranty).
(3) Comfort, 5/5: I don't even notice I've wearing them.
(4) Price, 3/5: These certainly are not the cheapest earphones on the market, but they are new and will likely come down in price. The cheapest I've found is $70 online with free shipping. I would highly recommend buying them locally, seeing if they work for you, and then returning them and buying them for cheaper online. If you've got something that works for you now, I'd say wait for the price to drop on these. If money is no concern, just buy them!
(5) Sound quality, 3/5: I'm not an audiophile and I didn't get these b/c I wanted the best sounding buds, and they're not. I listen exclusively to electronic music and they're OK, but slightly lacking in bass. Not sure if "tinny" or "muddy" are the correct terms, but I've thought that my music sounded better with JBuds J2s (but they would fall out when I'd sweat and shorted out after a year), with Acoustibuds attached to stock earbuds (these sound great and actually stay pretty well during movement and sweating but they're bulky, have to be twisted into the ear canal, and it's challenging to find the sweet spot as far as the "best" position for maximum effect), or with over-the-head models (these offend my sense of fashion). The CX680s are not bad, just not the greatest sounding, but I'm willing to sacrifice on music quality to eliminate them moving around, falling out, or breaking b/c of sweat damage.
(6) Appearance, 4/5: I don't know why Sennheiser thinks it necessary to make their Sports lines in bright, obnoxious colors (neon green, orange, and now yellow), instead of more muted grays, blacks, or whites, but these are OK. I'm not using them to win any fashion contests, and they're more appealing, IMO, than the neckband, over-the-ears, or over-the-head models.
In summary, I give the CX680s a 4/5: They're great for what they're intended (i.e., reduction of slippage due to movement and/or sweat), but could sound better, be less expensive, and reduce the flashy factor. I would also have preferred an asymmetrical cord design so that the earphones could be used w/o the clip when using an armband. Before my 30 day "trial" period is over, I will be returning these to Big Box Store and purchasing them online. Hopefully they will prove to be a good investment and a solution to the annoyance of finding the best earphones for sweaty cardio freaks like me.

I purchased a PYRUS full-screen MP3 player and the earbuds that came with it were crap. The left one kept falling out of my ear and they went staticy in just 3 uses because the wire was exposed.
So I bought these "sport" earphones and now I can go though an entire workout without my ear pieces falling out.
The sound quality is good too. They come with adjustable earbuds and a hard-shell case. I felt this was a great buy!

Sony Mdr-G45Lp Street Style Neckband Headphones (Black) Review

Sony Mdr-G45Lp Street Style Neckband Headphones (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been using the Sony MDR-G42LP Street Style Headphones for years and I've long considered them to be the best low-cost, wrap-around, durable headphones around. They'd last about a year before I broke them or one of the speakers would die (I'm rough with technology).
I recently went to replace my dead ones and discovered the new G45s... and I'm disappointed.
> The G45s have a significantly smaller speaker than the G42s and this makes it more difficult to place fully in front of the ear (it slides around a lot).*
> The G42s were made of thicker, more durable plastic and it's easily noticeable when the G45s wobble around like they could snap with a wrong movement.
> The G42s came with ear rests. These don't. A lot of other G42 users feel that the rests were unmanageable, but at least they were removable. These don't even have the slots on the inside if you wanted to put some in.
> They're also heavier and the lack of ear rests make them sit heavily on my ears.
So in conclusion, try them out. People have different shaped heads and ears and no two experiences will be the same, but be cautioned and make sure you can return it to the seller if unsatisfied.
*The size of the speakers doesn't actually impede on the sound quality at all.

Behind-the-neck headband won't interfere with your hairstyle; lets you wear a hat; establishes a new look on the street. Non-slip design stays on your ears, even during active sports; ideal for jogging, dancing, aerobics, blading and other activities you can now enhance with music. Mini-plug resists corrosion for maximum conductivity, minimum noise. 30 mm diameter drive units are larger than many portable headphones for deeper bass, lower distortion and wider dynamic range (frequency response extends down to a low 16 Hz). Ultra-small, ultra-light headphones weigh less than 2 ounces (55g) without cord; comfortable for hour after hour of wear.

Ultimate Ears MetroFi 200 Noise Isolating Earphones Review

Ultimate Ears MetroFi 200 Noise Isolating Earphones
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This review is about the Ultimate Ears Metro.fi 200 series. I got these about 1 month ago from an "unnamed" bargain website for $30. By far the best headphone purchase I've made. I have previously owned a few pairs of Shure E2C's, V-Moda Bass Freq earbuds, and numerous cheapos.
I wear these around the city on a daily basis (Go Steelers), and in the loud environment around the hospitals and buses, the -16dB isolation stands true. This doesn't mean you WON'T hear the noise, but it doesn't override your music. Admittedly, I struggled to find the earbud tips that provided the best isolation with the best bass response (I prefer a slightly emphasized but truly-tuned bass response). Ultimately, I stuck with the ones that came stock on it (though they weren't the most bass).
These are comfortable, versatile, and true to the sound of your music. I love that they have a "slider" to tame the cords a bit, and you can wear them quite easily by wrapping the cord around your ear (illustrated in video).
I'm quite the audiophile, but I just can't afford a nice $500 pair of headphones (who can?!?). These are as close as you're going to get to a nice pair of dual or triple-driver earbuds without shelling out the kind of money that those traditionally cost. The frequency response on these is true to the specs. They have a CLEAR sound and allow me to hear some finite background add-ins that I had struggled to hear in my music before. I'm a studio engineer by trade, and I know good sound. Though these aren't the best earbud-style headphones I've ever used, they by far outperform Shure E2Cs, V Moda Bass Freqs, Shure E4Cs, SCL2s, and the new M-Audio U.E. imitation monitors.
All in all, I'd buy another pair of these if they broke - no questions asked.
Enjoy the music!

AKG K316 RED In-Ear Sports Headphones (Red) Review

AKG K316 RED In-Ear Sports Headphones (Red)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned at least ten headphones that I use for running and exercise. The most important thing to me is that the headphones stay in the ear. Usually the ear hook style works well for this. These don't. I am constantly having to adjust the headphones. One minute they are solid and then they are loose again. I cannot recommend them for those who use them for exercise. As for sound, they are okay, but not spectacular. I paid a little more expecting a higher end headset. The are not much better than my $12 sony set.

Sony MDR-W24V Vertical In-The-Ear Headphones Review

Sony MDR-W24V Vertical In-The-Ear Headphones
Average Reviews:

I bought these as they appeared to be good for exercising and I've had good experiences with sony products in the past. First off you have to keep the volume control on the cord low and use your players volume control - at higher volumes on the integrated control the sound gets distorted especially at the high end. OK, I can live with that. The real letdown was the fact that these "in-the-ear" headphones didn't stay in the ear so well. Every 1/5 mile on the treadmill I found myself pushing them back in as they quickly worked their way out till they were resting over my ears. I'll use them for the time being but will stay on the lookout for a better pair.

Sennheiser OMX60 Ergonomic Earbuds with Basswind System Sound Review

Sennheiser OMX60 Ergonomic Earbuds with Basswind System Sound
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought these to replace the crappy earbuds that came with my $14 mp3 player, not to mention I wanted something that would stay put while out running/jogging. A few things I was looking for when I bought these:
1) Not placed in the ear canal.
2) I needed something that would be lightweight and stay in place with lots of moving around.
3) Good plug connection to the mp3 player.
4) Able to turn sound down or off quickly.
5) Very low priority - good sound.
Long story short: these earbuds rock.
Short story long:
1) These don't sit in my ears like plain earbuds. They are in the ear opening, but not shoved right in. This was important to me because I've heard of hearing loss issues with those style earbuds being played with music loudly.
2) The construction of these headphones is very nice. The earwraps bend and stay in place. I "sculpted" mine so the earbud would fit snugly pointed into my ear canal, and they don't budge and are extremely comfortable. I can barely feel them on. I did a head shake test just to see how much head trauma I would have to take for them to come off. They didn't. So if I ever get plowed into while out running, they'll find me with these earbuds still attached to my head.
3) The plug fit into the mp3 player even better than the earbuds that came with it. The connection was excellent, and I didn't have to twist and turn the plug to get sound to come through both earbuds.
4) Volume control is such a bonus. I hate fiddling with the dials on an mp3 player to get the music down fast, or to remove the headphones. One quick flip and the music is gone. This is necessary for when my full attention is needed not now, but 2 seconds ago.
5) Sound is great. I'm really not finicky about how good something sounds - as long as I have something resembling music playing while I'm trying to work out, I'm happy. That being said, the music has excellent clarity (as long as the .mp3 file is of good quality). I really wasn't expecting much subwoof/bass with earbuds, but these actually have it. And, if you're looking to get the same experience of an actual subwoofer, you're not going to find it in any headphones, period.Anyone looking for the same traits I was will be phenomenally happy with these headphones.

Sony MDR AS40EX - Headphones ( convertible ) Review

Sony MDR AS40EX - Headphones ( convertible )
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Before I found these, I went through at least 5 sets of headphones: over-the-head, around-the-back-of-the-head, over-the-ear, in-ear, you name it. The only ones I kept going back to were my dorky over-the-head ones, solely because they didn't fall off like all the others. However, I decided to give these a shot just because they looked a bit more conforming than the other over-the-ear options I'd tried previously. Sure enough, these are the headphones for me. They come with 3 different over-the-ear attachments (one of which is sure to work for you) as well as 3 different ear bud attachments to ensure a secure fit. These headphones also have a fairly short cord (which, interestingly enough, sometimes comes in handy), which can then be lengthened with an additional piece that's included (genius!!).
Love these-- they're affordable, functional, comfortable, and wonderful.

My son got a pair of headphones very similar to these - made by Panasonic. He thought they sounded pretty good, but then he's 12. He got them because earbuds hurt his ears. Since these rest over the ear, they worked better. Personally, I listened to them and I thought they sounded cheap, plus the plastic arm that keeps them in place over the ear broke in one week's time. Now he has to hold one of them over his ear until we can get something better.

6 months after I bought these headphones, the right one went out on me. Now if I wiggle the cord for a while, the sound comes back, but goes away as soon as I let go. Sound quality was average but not great, and the hook over the ears was uncomfortable for long periods as the metal part chafes against the top of the ear. Those issues were tolerable, but I'm really ticked that they broke after 6 months. What's worse, the housing is glued, so there's no easy way to crack the right earbud open to repair the loose wire.

I bought the S2 headphones with my new S2 CD Walkman, and let me say that these head phones are great! When ever I go skate or go downhill mountain biking and wear these at the same time, they never slip off of my head, they just stay nice and snug around your ears and behind your head. The "behind the neck" band is great because it doesn't mess up your hair. The street style version of the sport inspired S2 Sony line gives it a very urban stylistic look, which we can all appreciate. The bass on this thing is just fantastic, and the sound quality is great. The S2 version of the street style headphones have added extras like reflectors on the headphones so you can safely jog at night time without being runover by a car. These headphones are also waterproof, so water, nor swear can effect the performance of these headphones. The only downside to these headphones is that you can't comfortably wear glasses of sunglasses while wearing these headphones. Other than that, I absolutley love these head phones and I would recommend these to anyone who likes to listen to music while doing something active, as well as anyone who listens to their portable audio players alot.

Philips HS500 Behind-the-Head Sport Headphones with Neckband Review

Philips HS500 Behind-the-Head Sport Headphones with Neckband

I bought these headphones at Wal-Mart because all my other headphones were old and dying. I wasn't expecting great things from them because they were so cheap (I usually never buy headphones under $20) and Wal-Mart was selling them (they're not exactly the electronics experts, if you know what I mean). But I was shocked by how good they sounded! They were even better than my $25 Sony headphones (a lot better actually). They're very comfortable and the sound is crystal clear. Excellent bass (no annoying crackles even on Ashanti's "Down For You" which has crackled every one of my headphones, even on a very low volume.) Another excellent feature--a little yellow thingy to prevent what nearly every headphone dies of--a pulled cord resulting in a short. It keeps the first half inch or so (the most vulnerable part) from being accidently pulled. I've had these things for over a year and there have been no problems with them yet.
Those of you not used to behind-the-head headphones will find them a little awkward at first, but whoever invented them was a genius. First, you don't have to constantly adjust them because they're slipping off your head. Also, if you're a girl you will love them. If you sometimes wear a pony tail high on your head like I do, they are wonderful. With conventional headphones, if you had a high ponytail, you had to put the headphones in an awkward position, because your ponytail is usually where the headphones are placed. Either they were slipping off the back of your head or the front. Such a pain! With these, having a pony tail is no problem. Just slip them on (with the headband part at the back of your head) pull your pony tail out and you're ready to go! It's also an absolute miracle for joggers and walkers (like I am) and guys who wore conventional headphones behind their head anyway (now they won't look like weirdos anymore!)
If you're looking for a cheap pair of headphones with excellent sound, these are definitely for you. I like them so much that I might just order myself another pair!

Sony MDR-AS35W Sports Headphones Lightweight with Powerful Bass Review

Sony MDR-AS35W Sports Headphones Lightweight with Powerful Bass

Over the past 15 years I have purchased only Sony Headphones (MDR-W08, MDR-A35) and I have always viewed these phones as excellent and cost effective. However, I recently purchased the Sony MDR-AS35W headphones (replacement for the MDR-A35) and found them to be the poorest sound quality of any of Sony's past headphones. I am a perfectionist when it comes to listening to my Sony Walkman and my Apple iPhone with headphones; my old Sony MDR-A35 headphones are excellent. When I recently purchased the new Sony MDR-AS35W, I anticipated that the quality would be at least equal to the MDR-A35, however I found the sound quality to be the worst of any headphones I have ever owned. I tried these headphones on many different high-end players and they always sound the same ...... terrible. The MDR-AS35W cannot reproduce clear/clean high-end or midrange frequencies, they sound muffled by the low range (bass) frequencies. I listened to all different types of musical content and it was always the same..... terrible sound quality. Sony needs to take these off the market immediately and replace them with their older model MDR-A35.
