I bought these to replace the crappy earbuds that came with my $14 mp3 player, not to mention I wanted something that would stay put while out running/jogging. A few things I was looking for when I bought these:
1) Not placed in the ear canal.
2) I needed something that would be lightweight and stay in place with lots of moving around.
3) Good plug connection to the mp3 player.
4) Able to turn sound down or off quickly.
5) Very low priority - good sound.
Long story short: these earbuds rock.
Short story long:
1) These don't sit in my ears like plain earbuds. They are in the ear opening, but not shoved right in. This was important to me because I've heard of hearing loss issues with those style earbuds being played with music loudly.
2) The construction of these headphones is very nice. The earwraps bend and stay in place. I "sculpted" mine so the earbud would fit snugly pointed into my ear canal, and they don't budge and are extremely comfortable. I can barely feel them on. I did a head shake test just to see how much head trauma I would have to take for them to come off. They didn't. So if I ever get plowed into while out running, they'll find me with these earbuds still attached to my head.
3) The plug fit into the mp3 player even better than the earbuds that came with it. The connection was excellent, and I didn't have to twist and turn the plug to get sound to come through both earbuds.
4) Volume control is such a bonus. I hate fiddling with the dials on an mp3 player to get the music down fast, or to remove the headphones. One quick flip and the music is gone. This is necessary for when my full attention is needed not now, but 2 seconds ago.
5) Sound is great. I'm really not finicky about how good something sounds - as long as I have something resembling music playing while I'm trying to work out, I'm happy. That being said, the music has excellent clarity (as long as the .mp3 file is of good quality). I really wasn't expecting much subwoof/bass with earbuds, but these actually have it. And, if you're looking to get the same experience of an actual subwoofer, you're not going to find it in any headphones, period.Anyone looking for the same traits I was will be phenomenally happy with these headphones.
