Sony MDR-NC40 Noise Canceling Headphone (Black) Review

I travel a great deal and have a drawer full of noise canceling headphones by Panasonic, Kensington, JVC and Sony. Each had limitations -- not enough high end, poor construction, poor noise reduction, or in the case of lesser Sony's I bought several months ago, pretty good sound, but rather inadequate ear cups and poor portability (they wouldn't fold up to occupy as little as possible space in my briefcase.)Always worried about losing or damaging something while traveling I did not go for the full kahuna and buy Bose.
So, having seen these around some local shops and taken a listen I bought the NC40 and immediately took them on a trip.
By and large they are fine. When turned on (don't even try to listen to them when off) the sound is rich and clean; lovely base and good high end, which is important to my tired ole ears. Plenty of mid-range. Nice volume. I'm not sure they are world beaters in terms of overall noise reduction, but they certainly take the edge off and from my same old seat near the rear of a Southwest jet, they provide a relaxing and easy to take listening experience. One WANTS to use this extremely comfortable headset, whether noise reduction is needed or not. I hear things I didn't know my MP3 decoder put in a file. Oh, I listen mainly to jazz and classical music.
Oh yes, they fold up neatly and I like the on-off switch/battery holder, which lives by itself on the connecting line and has an override button that works beautifully.

Sennheiser MM60 iP Mobile Headset for i-Phone (Black) Review

I wanted mobile, audiophile grade over-the-ear iPod headphones to replace my old Sony's. Overall, I love these. Combine this with the fact that as a headset they include a hidden, full range mic for use for messaging tools like Office Communicator, and you've got a real winner. To wit...
Sonically, these are excellent. Smooth, solid base. Unbeleivably rich and full sounding, with natural highs and no hint of tinniness. Smooth transitions and very transparent sound. They EQ very nicely to match everything from Mozart to MegaDeth. And best of all - they FOLD and store away nicely in their own case. The case is the size of an eyeglass case, but thinner. Great for popping in the laptop bag or napsack and not worrying about tangled, broken cords anymore. If you've only used earbuds before - even the best earbuds - the full, natural bass and broad frequency response of this headset will absolutely blow you away... try them and see for yourself. Details missing in music before are suddenly apparent and thoroughly enjoyed again.
From a comfort perspective, they are a little on the tight side for my head, applying some extra presssure to the ears noticable during extended listening. But, they are new and might loosen up some. The swiveling earpieces are nice in that they rotate the headband easily behind your head, but you can't get them to sit exactly the way you want. I wish the the earpieces were maybe a few mm larger in diameter and cupped to cover the ear better, but the intent is to make these highly mobile... mission accomplished. Overall, comfort is a 3.5 out of 5. Not perfect, but very nice.
The cord is two piece. The cable and gold-plated connectors are very good quality and the female side has a great mic switch, conveniently located and easily operated. As expected, since these are NOT cheap, throw away headphones, you'll want to store these in the case and use them for years to come. Price is somewhat high, another reason for knocking down the rating a peg, but you get what you pay for. They are a fair value for the quality, assuming you are willing to pay good $$$ for decent headphones. I was, and I'm happy with the purchase. In fact, I'll have to rush out and buy the wife her own pair for Christmas, since when she sees these - they'll be HERS unless I get her her own pair... ;-)

Sennheiser PX200 Collapsible High-Performance Closed Headphones (Black) Review

Sennheiser PX200 Collapsible High-Performance Closed Headphones (Black)

Ok, so I purchased both the px-100 and the px-200 by Sennheiser because the reviews for both were similar but some where saying that the px-100s were better. My first reaction to them is that they are both remarkably similar in build and quality. Nice case, sturdy, and comfortable. Now the sound, after listening to both I found that the px-100 does have better speaker drivers,...but not much better. The bass on the px-200 is a little bit stronger. The real difference between the two really comes from the closed ear design of the px-200 vs. the open px-100. With the open px-100 the bass isn't as strong, you can hear everything around you still, and others around you can hear what you are listening to even if the music is only moderatly loud. While the px-200 losses high end sound quality in its design, the px-200 makes it so you will only hear music (almost) and nothing else. Also the px-200 is silent to those around you even if you have it cranked up.
Conclusion: Both are amazing headphones but the real decision comes down to the person who is using them and where. If you don't mind being able to hear things around to get better sound quality get the px-100s. If you want to just hear the music and not bother others around you get the px-200. I choose the px-200 in the end because I use them at work and I don't want to disturb others around me also I don't enjoy hearing everything around me.
*as an important side note the differences in both in high and low end sound can be fixed just by using an equalizer. You can't beat these headphones for quality along with portability.

Sennheiser HD228 Closed Back Headphone Optimized for iPod/iPhone/MP3/and Music Players Review

Sennheiser HD228 Closed Back Headphone Optimized for iPod/iPhone/MP3/and Music Players

I'm a college student who listens to a lot of hip hop and rap music so I'm one who really appreciates a lot of deep, punchy bass. Over the few months I have purchased arguably three of the most "bass heavy" Sennheiser headphones including the HD 288, HD 212, and PX 100.
HD 228:
Unfortunately, the HD 288 did not live up to the "excellent" bass as advertised. The only time that the bass was really prominent was when I pushed both the ear pads and held them against my ears. The headphones also seemed fragile and the ear pads felt like a cheap imitation of the Bose QC3 memory foam.
HD 212:
The HD 212 seemed to produce more bass, only because the ear pads were extremely tight around the ears and could only be worn for a short period of time, until causing pain. Also, the headphone cord was extremely long and bulky which was quite annoying when using with mp3 players.
PX 100:
Instead of buying any of the aforementioned headphones, I would highly recommend buying the similarly priced Sennheiser PX 100 which I believe pack the same amount of punchy bass, but with a lot more clarity in sound. In addition, the PX 100 are very portable and hands-down the most comfortable and stylish headphones. However, there is one caveat- because these headphones are "open headphones" they do leak a good amount of sound. But, the trade off for such sound leakage is the increased clarity in sound which makes all genres of music sound flawless.
Good Luck!
