Panasonic Retro Headphones - White (RP-HTX7-W1) Review

In my extensive experience with headhphones (including expensive models such as Sennheiser 650s, Audio-Technicas, Shures, etc.), I've found that Panasonic has been the brand over the years that has always provided really great sound quality for the price. (Their RP-DJ1210 provides almost perfect sound in an "earpad" DJ model). These are also nearly perfect (especially with a couple of modifications, as below), and most importantly, they can be enjoyed for long periods of time because their departures from perfection in terms of sound quality are not fatiguing.
Essentially, the sound is very clear, lively, colorful, balanced, and realistic, from the deep bass (pretty deep too) all the way through the high treble, with only very small traces of distortion. Due mostly to their enclosure, there is a little too much upper bass and lower mid-range; occasionally, on some kinds of music, this will give them a slightly "boxy" or hollow sound. This can be cured to a great degree if you bend the headset wires to press them more tightly against your ears. (Or, if you live in Asia where another similar model is offered, you can substitute the softer earpads of those, or modify the earpads in some other way.) Bringing the driver closer to your ears eliminates most of the "boxy" sound of the enclosure.
Yes, burn-in on these does help some. Leave them playing for a few hours at slightly higher than normal listening levels. The sound will come into better focus. As for comfort, the shape of these phones may look cool, but they really don't quite fit around the ear in a natural way. Who cares--they sound good.

Coby CV215BLK Deep Bass Stereo Headphones and Earphones (Black) Review

The actual headphones have pretty decent sound. I knew I wasn't getting bose quality when I ordered them but I expected at least a usable sound quality and I got that. However, after about a week of minor use with them whenever I would move my head i could hear something large shaking around within the left ear part. As though something had dislodged. After a while that stopped. Then the right ear started. Then the sound got weird and tinny unless I held the cord at a certain angle. I'm happy to say that at the moment [i'm using them as I type this] they're back to their original average quality. They definitely don't seem to be long term headphones but for the price I'm still satisfied. Also, when I thought that maybe I'd give the headphones a rest and use the earbuds for a while I was terribly disappointed at the sound quality. Much like everyone else said, the sound quality of the earbuds is pretty awful and airy and...baseless. But still the price drew me to them and if you just need to hear something they can manage that. Just don't expect too much.

Panasonic RP-HTX7-RS Ryan Sheckler Signature Headphones Review

The people that are saying these headphones are as good as the more expensive ones must be tone deaf or something. They are good headphones but are not worth more than what they cost ~$40. I got mine for around $21 so they are a bargain at that price. Sound quality is good for most people, the headphones do not isolate outside noise as you might imagine, you can easily hear what's going on around you when the volume is low. These do not come with the extension cable so you'll need to buy an extension if you plan to use these with anything other than a portable MP3 player cable is only 4ft enough to go from your head to your waist. These are also very light, which makes them feel cheap but perfect for portable use. They also seem very delicate with the thin metal wires and plastic construction, but I can't judge on that as I've only had them for a few days now. Bottom line if you are looking for audiophile sound quality and something that feels like it's built well spend the money on the expensive stuff. If you want a good set of headphones you won't feel bad about abusing, letting your kids use them or losing them then get these, perfect for work.

Coby Folding Deep Bass Stereo Headphones CV185 (Black) Review

These are really good cans for less than 20 bones--let alone 10! They're closed-back, and have decent (but not mind-blowing) isolation. The driver shells and headband are *entirely* plastic, so they're probably not the most durable 'phones in the world, but they're hardly what I would call "flimsy" (which is much more than I can say for most flat-folding cans). And they're actually pretty good-looking when worn, which was a pleasant surprise. They're a little big, but not clunky. As for fit, I have a rather "tall" and narrow face, and I think they're really comfy. But head shapes differ, so you'll need to sort that one out yourself. For the money, though, you don't have much to lose.
On to the important stuff--the sound. They're pretty bassy--remarkably so for the price. Bass is not super-extended or super-articulate, sadly, but all in all, it's really not bad. Sure, I'd like more, but then I'm a bit of a basshead. The bass eats into the mids a bit, but the mids are definitely present, particularly the upper mids. There's a midrange resonance in there somewhere (as they are closed-back, after all), but it's not a distracting amount. Highs, well, they're pracitcally nonexistent. If you're a gamer, or you're looking for crisp, sparkling crystal clarity in your music, these definitely aren't for you. But their mellower sound also means they're very forgiving with crappy sound sources (like low-bitrate MP3's). The warm, laid-back signature also means they're not very fatiguing, which is good for long listening stretches. For me, too much treble can get exhausting real fast.
Basically, if you're looking for a cheap, warm, relaxed-sounding set of cans with a respectable but not overwhelming amount of bass, you ought to try these. For the price, they knocked my socks off.
