In my extensive experience with headhphones (including expensive models such as Sennheiser 650s, Audio-Technicas, Shures, etc.), I've found that Panasonic has been the brand over the years that has always provided really great sound quality for the price. (Their RP-DJ1210 provides almost perfect sound in an "earpad" DJ model). These are also nearly perfect (especially with a couple of modifications, as below), and most importantly, they can be enjoyed for long periods of time because their departures from perfection in terms of sound quality are not fatiguing.
Essentially, the sound is very clear, lively, colorful, balanced, and realistic, from the deep bass (pretty deep too) all the way through the high treble, with only very small traces of distortion. Due mostly to their enclosure, there is a little too much upper bass and lower mid-range; occasionally, on some kinds of music, this will give them a slightly "boxy" or hollow sound. This can be cured to a great degree if you bend the headset wires to press them more tightly against your ears. (Or, if you live in Asia where another similar model is offered, you can substitute the softer earpads of those, or modify the earpads in some other way.) Bringing the driver closer to your ears eliminates most of the "boxy" sound of the enclosure.
Yes, burn-in on these does help some. Leave them playing for a few hours at slightly higher than normal listening levels. The sound will come into better focus. As for comfort, the shape of these phones may look cool, but they really don't quite fit around the ear in a natural way. Who cares--they sound good.
