(More customer reviews)I was badly in need of a pair of over-ear-style headphones that would reduce ambient sound, as I live in an apartment building and my upstairs neighbors are constantly stomping around and making all kinds of noise. However, I also needed them to be reasonably priced, and I wanted them to be reasonably cute. These fit the bill on all counts! The only time I've been able to hear my neighbors while I was wearing them is when they were assembling a piece of furniture, which involved pretty much constant hammering. (This was the same day I got the headphones... it was like they knew I'd be able to tune them out and made extra noise especially for me!) It was quite loud, so definitely don't consider it a flaw in these headphones that they weren't able to block that out.
I have to admit that I don't know much about the technical aspects of speakers or headphones, but I find the sound on these to be very satisfying. The bass comes through solidly, without overwhelming everything else or battering my eardrums. The higher tones are crisp, and vocals don't get lost in the mix. The latter is especially important to me, as I listen to mainly indie, rock, alternative, folk, and some world music, with occasional classical/instrumental pieces mixed in. The headphones even sounded great when listening to streaming music from Pandora Radio, which, IMO, tends to be rather flat compared to mp3s; I didn't notice the difference nearly as much with these on.
My only minor qualm about these is that they aren't quite perfect in terms of comfort for me. I wish the over-ear part was a bit larger and the headband extended just a little bit more. However, I didn't knock any stars off my general rating for that because (a) I have an unusually large head, and (b) I wear glasses with somewhat thick frames/earpieces. Although I found these to be uncomfortably tight on my ears at first, I was able to very gently bend the headband portion outward, bit by bit, until they were at a more comfortable width for me. There's one spot at the top of my left ear where the headphones still dig in a bit, but I think it's mainly because they are pressing my ear against my glasses earpiece in an uncomfortable way. I only notice it after I've been wearing them for a while, and if I adjust them a bit every now and then it doesn't bother me much. Plus, they're still far more comfortable than wearing earbud-style headphones for an extended time. They're quite lightweight, as well, and the padding in the earpieces is soft and cushy without being overly huge and ridiculous.
Last but not least, these are good-looking. I love the graphics inserts that are included in the package as well as the fact that you can make your own (though I'm still rocking one of the Philips ones at the moment). Although they obviously stick out a bit on the sides, that's to be expected with this style of headphone, and the headband sits pretty flush against the top of my head, which I like.
All in all, I'm finding that these headphones are almost exactly what I was looking for, and considering the price at which Amazon is offering them, they are a pretty incredible value!
