(More customer reviews)Okay, so, I have a good quality waterproof pouch for my mp3 player, so that I can use it in the pool. I am training for triathlons and need to spend a lot of time doing long swims, so things get pretty boring pretty quick, making the prospect of being able to listen to music very appealing. I got these, after careful consideration of the available options, hoping to wear them while swimming. I can't say they're defective -- they're not -- but they do NOT do the job. Huh-uh. No way.
First of all, the sound quality is shockingly poor. These headphones have the ability to make my high-bitrate, high quality mp3's sound like they're being played on a tape deck, or fm radio. Even out of the water, everything sounds muffled on these things, and there is no range. The bass is noticeably missing, but so is some of the high range. So, fault number one, they sound like crap. That's unacceptable where headphones are concerned.
Second, these things don't stay put when you're in the water. Yes, they have the earplug-style covers, in different sizes; and yes, they have these over-the-ear things that are supposed to contour to your ear. None of that makes a difference. It is very difficult to even put these earbuds on because of the over-the-ear thingies, unless you leave a big long length of cord between the ear thingie and the earbud -- and then, what's the point?
The idea is that you sort of screw the earbud into your ear, and put this contouring over-the-ear thing over your ear, and everything is held in place. But while trying to do all of this, every time I would put the earbud in my ear, the over-ear thing would pop off. Every time I would start with the over-ear thing and then put in the earbud, the over-ear thing would pop off. After fifteen minutes of determined effort, I had these earbuds in, with the ear-things over my ears. I got in and swam at a very, very slow pace -- and before I had gone five yards, these things came off my head completely. So I tried them without the over-ear things -- and although I could put them on without a stupid amount of effort, they still didn't stay in.
Therefore, these fail in the only two ways that matter:
1. They sound like crap.
2. They are no good in the water.
So what's left? Why sell these things?
