(More customer reviews)I own two other terrific Pioneer headphone sets, the Pioneer SE-M390 High Performance Ported AV Over-Ear Headphones (Black) and the SE-H35TV (which is very similar to the Pioneer SE-H33 Lightweight Over-Ear Headphones with Foldable Headband (Silver)), and this is another winner in my book. Whereas the larger, incredibly comfortable over-the-ear SE-M390 is awesome for TV and movie viewing while plugged into an AV receiver, and the lightweight on-ear SE-H33/SE-H35TV is great for portable music listening, this set falls nicely into the middle ground.
I found this on-ear set to be very comfortable, and I was able to listen for extended periods without any ear pain at all. The "leather-type" covering on the earcups might get uncomfortably warm in a warmer environment, but that can happen with any headphones. I strongly recommend wiping off the earcups after each use to help prevent degradation from skin oils.
The sound is very, very good. The SE-MJ3 provides full, tight bass response without any boominess as well as crystal-clear mids and highs. The soundstage of the music CDs I listened to seemed to open up, and I heard details I had missed with my old bass-heavy Panasonic headphones. It should be noted that this increased clarity is a characteristic of all three of the Pioneer models I have mentioned.
I have always been a fan of Pioneer audio equipment, and I have now added their headphone products to my "must buy" list, and I would recommend them to anyone interested in great sound at a reasonable price.
