I have dropped a lot of money for good as well as good looking head phones. Many times I've regretted it. Skull Candies run so much money these days and they are just made to to break after you drop them. Urban Outfitters sells retro styled headphones and they run you up to $60-$70-$80 for a $40 dollar sound quality. Radioshack's headphones are just built to fail after like 3 weeks. And Sony and other big brands always leave something to be desired when it comes to aesthetics and when they do look good they are always marked up at a high price. These headphones were SUCH a steal! It was unbelievable! These look great! They sound like headphones that should be double the price they are and they look expensive too.
At $15 dollar I was expecting that either 1 like most cheap sub-par pairs of headphones, in or around ear, they bass tends to be an after thought and not matter all that much. Or 2 A lot of time when people that aren't very experienced with headphones say headphones are of high quality sound they mistake high quality with an over bearing bass! I didn't encounter either of those! The treble and bass were so on great levels! The treble didn't drown out the bass the bass didn't punch your ears into submission! Also as a little additive, spoken word sounds absolutely fine and not to empty and hollow.
They also fit like a glove! I mean it perplexes me as to why can't all headphones feel so light on your head? There isn't any head choking with these! And I chewed gum with other pairs of headphones that choked your head and it was so annoying that every time you moved your jaw you'd feel it move so noticeably and annoyingly. These have very little movement whatsoever when you chew gum only if you choose to notice the movement will you realize it there.
Another note these don't feel like they'll break because of its minimal NON-PLASTIC frame. The chord is at a good length in my opinion I could stand it to be a wee bit longer but that doesn't matter all that much. I love the fact that the chord is threaded, it makes it seem very sturdy.
And here comes my only gripe, which really isn't all that much of a gripe at all really. These headphones sound EXCELLENT through your computer. So excellent in fact that if you play a song on your MP3 player or iPod that you just played on your computer the sound quality is noticeably better than it is on the iPod. And that totally leaves something to be desired, but you really wouldn't notice if you don't put them side by side. And I am aware that this may actually just be a compression problem with the MP3s being compressed in a portable device but I thought it was something to mention.
So all in all if you're looking for a pair of retro-headphone, don't drop $60 dollars on a pair that should be $20 cheaper. Spend it on these Merkury Innovations which in my opinion could be sold for $20 dollars more expensive.
